Probably the worst Fallout game I've played. After playing the older Fallout games, I can safely say this is a bastardisation of the originals, with only the token iconography remaining: Super Mutants, Vault Tec, Nuka Cola, Bottle Caps, Ghouls , Deathclaws, Brotherhood of Steel, Enclave... the list goes on.

The characters are two-dimensional, the story is just awful with so many contrivances, contradictions, plot holes and straight up retcons from previous games that seem to stretch on forever. The lead writer for Bethesda openly says that he doesn't write good stories because, according to him, people would ignore it by "Tearing up the script pages and making paper aeroplanes".

The game's RPG elements are barebones to nonexistent. In typical Bethesda "Dumbing games down for a wider audience" fashion, there is no more specialisation for characters or builds as skills are thrown to the wayside for a solely perk-based system. Your character can do everything and anything; you yourself have to limit your own character's strength in the game, it's more of a casual linear romp than an RPG.

If you like Fallout/Fallout-style games, and want a thought-provoking, immersive experience without the need of mods to make the game even remotely enjoyable, play New Vegas, Fallout 2 or the original Fallout.
Because Fallout 4 is not a Fallout game, it is Todd Howard's fanfiction come to life.

Little Orbit is taking this game in the right direction.

I've been a part of this game before it was even Greenlit. And I've gotta say, that this game is pretty good for a F2P game.

It can be repetitive, but it's fun to play as a laugh and to waste time away.

I played this way back in 2009, on the PS3. I was introduced to the game as a 9 year old through my recently late grandfather, and I have loved the Borderlands series ever since. I have him to thank for sharing the world of Borderlands to me, and I'll never forget it.

While Borderlands 2 is most certainly the better game, through story, gameplay mechanics and replayability, this game will be my favourite out of the four main games for the memories it helped me make. Replaying countless times through corrupt saves on PS3, begging my parents to buy the new DLCs as they came, farming Crawmerax and the Knoxx Armoury for legendaries, and being excited for a possible second instalment; a lot of precious moments that I will always remember.

If you're interested in checking out Borderlands for the first time, I'd honestly recommend playing Borderlands 1 through the 10th Anniversary "Enhanced" version, which has modern QoL changes like FOV sliders, graphical quality settings and a functioning sensitivity slider. An overall much better experience for players who are looking to start the series fresh, rather than seek nostalgia.

You can drift around a sandbox server blasting Deja Vu by Initial D from your radio with no concequences. A masterpiece.
