So far so fun!

Timelines adds a set of stand alone missions that take place outside of the usual sandbox environment allowing the game to add fun and interesting constraints it often struggled to add in story missions in the sandbox in the past (it's hard to challenge you when you can just roll up to a mission in a capital ship, or with a fleet at your back). As a Time Cop (tm) you run around as different factions doing everything from racing, to escort missions, to stand up fights. Apparently some of these are call backs to previous games, but I'm having fun having never played the previous games before.

In reward for completing the missions you also (I think, haven't gone in sandbox yet) can find special abandoned ships in the sandbox in designated sectors allowing you to do both.

Expect to suck, but man this is a cool game. Even free.

Think about creating and deleting a few characters/classes to find a play style you like if you don't want to pay.

it's pretty fun

This is a hard game. This game is like frost punk on their hardest difficulty all the time. If you make little mistakes they'll haunt you the whole time and eventually drag your station down. You will have to restart several times before you win the way the game is now and I love that personally, but definitely not for everyone.

TLDR: If you loved trying to beat the frostpunk scenarios on survival difficulty, you'll love this game.

It's really fun. Definitely start with a pre-built build as you learn the ropes and don't be afraid to look things up.

It's fun to run at people with an axe while screaming.
