After finishing the True End I wanted to write down a few of my thoughts.

Whilst it doesn't seem to tackle the subject of A.I's clash with humanity in a particularly unique or exclusive way, it's a refreshingly optimistic (with a tinge of sour) experience, leaving a bittersweet ending for our beloved couple. I personally adored the way it dealt with the future of humanity, rather than a cliché "living on the moon!" or "human extinction..." route, it leaves us with a seemingly optimistic and comforting take on the idea that we do not need to die alongside our planet, and that we as humans rely on technology and we must further technology for our future generations as to not lead to complete and utter extinction.

The creators took their time to remind us that we are a consequence of our surroundings, and that the human experience is a learnt one, we are all accustomed and socialised into our patterns, language, culture and emotions.

The art, voice acting and soundtrack are all great, people seem to complain and about new generation of art in visual novels complaining that they lack originality but I think uniqueness in art doesn't stray far only from shapes in anatomy but also lighting and scenery, in which I thought the use realistic background styles were fantastic and use of water pastel in such few select scenes were a nice touch. 9/10

In March of 1956 a series of murders plagues a small area of Tokyo, where young women disappear only to turn up dead, limbs ripped from their body and wombs torn out. Private Detective Tokisaka Reiji infiltrates Ouba Private Girls Academy as a teacher to investigate the missing girls, for these series of murders resemble a case from six years ago, one that took the life of his beloved fiancé.

This psychological murder mystery is a refreshing take on the mystery genre, with a lack of whimsical plot twists and victorious feelings, Innocent Grey rather focuses on the atmospheric tone and themes of grief and mental illness in a rather fantastic way as this murder mystery will leave our characters with anguish, having to deal with the grief of losing loved ones. You will not feel success in your journey, victims already being lain to waste, our story will leave you feeling unfulfilled as we come to a close.

Atmosphere in this game lies within the beautiful graphics and gentle piano tracks, which serve to unease you. The carefully crafted but gruesome murder scenes will turn your stomach, which plays perfectly into the themes of horror and psychological torment. Even our beloved Reiji is victim to these scenes in select bad endings, which are seemingly unavoidable without a guide, which follows into my one complaint.

My one complaint being the difficulty. Completing this game without a guide is borderline impossible, as characters placements in parts of our world are unpredictable at points and inconsistent, which is especially annoying when those characters have important information you NEED to acquire for a "good" ending, so I would recommend a guide if you haven't already read this great series, luckily this is not the case for Cartagra ~Tsuki Kurui no Yamai~ (the prequel) and the Sequel episode to Kara no Shoujo.

I would highly recommend reading this game through the HD and Full Voices version of the game, as the original port is clunky, old and low resolution in 4:3, in which the HD version adapts to a 16:9 aspect ratio with beautifully re-drawn art (not upscaled, thank god).

An exhausting attempt to say "Mean girls have reasons to be mean" all while displaying it through cynical commentary deployed by narcissistic and abusive teenage girls. Any meaningful remarks made were immediately shot down by an attempt to get clipped and shipped onto TikTok for any amount of attention.

Yes, I understand that teenage girls have their own unique experiences that aren't talked about a lot, of which this game tried to tackle but they missed the mark due to it's appeal to comedy, satirising any conflict of which any of the characters encounter.

This game has proven time and time again that they will do anything to appeal to monetary value, dragging down a genre pioneered by thousands, a genre that wouldn't exist without those people, all to advertise your creation as the "Anti-Visual Novel", discrediting the work of those and then failing to even produce a worthwhile game is embarrassing. All for a quick buck.

This game should've never been given the time of day. 1/10.

I'm the kind of gamer who lives and breathes gaming. When I'm not playing games, I'm reviewing them. I'm a master of all genres, but I specialize in anime games (especially the hentai kind) and CS:GO. I'm always on the lookout for the next great game and I'm always pushing the boundaries. With my skills, I make sure that everyone has a great time playing the games I review. I'm the ultimate gaming geek and I'm proud of it!
