Absolutely outstanding. This is neck and neck with the greatest DLC ever released, the other being "The Old Hunters" for Bloodborne. 10/10, absolute must own. For those who think it is too hard, try exploring and find those unique DLC upgrades, they make a huge difference. I've only died to two bosses, Mesmer once because I didn't realize the door was the boss door and wasn't prepared (killed him on the next attempt), and twice to the final boss.

The art design is top notch, combat is as expected from FROM SOFTWARE... stellar, and the experience and lore are just delicious.

A beautiful game where the atmosphere is the experience. The puzzles add tension, but the combat needs a rework.

9/10, because the combat blows but the rest of the game is amazing.

I've been playing games since Pong, and this is the greatest video game ever made. Nothing tops Elden Ring.

What happens when you take the best aspects of F-Zero, WipEout, and Extreme-G and turn up everything to 11? Redout is what happens. This is AG racing perfected. The sense of speed is second to none in this game, and the controls work flawlessly, once you wrap your head around the idea of using both analogue sticks while flying down the tracks (and through the air). I am reviewing not only Redout's base game, but also the three currently available DLC packs : Neptune, V.E.R.T.E.X., and Mars.

Graphics

Redout uses a low-poly design style which allows for the game to run at blazing speeds, even on older hardware. While being low-poly, it looks incredible with it's vivid color choices and fantastic track designs. The different racing teams all have a unique look and the game rewards constant play by granting new colors/liveries when you race. I believe the drop rate is 1 each 12 hours.

Sound

Glorious. Especially the Original Sound Track (OST). The sound track in Redout reminds me of Goa/Psytrance, in a very good way. It is immersive and interesting, and quite varied. The one area of the game where the style of the OST changes is on the Neptune tracks... where the OST becomes orchestral with a rather epic feel. Neptune's music is quite fitting, as you're racing through space. The engine and boosting sounds are appropriate, and hearing the wind whip past as you pass various structures on the sides of the track just adds to the sensation of "ludicrous speed".

Game play

This is where the game simply shines. When you are able to nail a track perfectly at ridiculous speed, there is a bliss inducing sensation that comes with it. The gaming "glow" comes in spades... 脳汁 flows.

It takes some time to learn each track but persistence is rewarded through much better lap times and more flawless execution of turns, loops, jumps, and tubes. While you can play with the keyboard, I've just been using an X-box 360 controller. Using a controller, there are 3 different settings one can use, but I highly recommend using the "Redout" control scheme, as it fits the game best.

Game Modes

You have career mode where you can unlock tracks, earn money for use in purchasing new ships, power ups, and upgrades, along with earning "contracts" which will reward you with either extra money, new ships, or new power ups.

Quick race mode is for practice... you can do time trials, races, Boss track races, etc.

Multiplayer is also available, but you're better off going to the official Discord server and setting up matches there rather than hoping to find someone hosting randomly.

Content

You have 7 teams (ESA-AGR, Koeniggswerth Engineering, Sulha AG, Conqueror Technologies, ASERA, Lunare Scuderia, and BURAN) each with 4 ships... 1 for each speed class (I, II, III, IV). There are 8 different SRRL complexes, each with 5 tracks and a boss tracks giving you a total of 28 ships and 48 tracks.

Overall & Final Score

Redout is an absolutely fantastic game. If you're a fan of racing games, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

A gem of a game

The Surge is a rather interesting addition into the "BRPG" (Brutal RPG) genre. "Souls-like" is too limiting a term for this new style of ARPG created and made famous by FROM Software's "Souls" series. While The Surge has some familiar mechanics (stamina based combat, no map, a central hub for saving, and a single currency for leveling both your character and gear), it goes beyond with a more subtle combat system which allows for specific targeting and more in depth dodging.

I have bought this game twice... on Steam and for the PS4, and have achieved 100% trophies on both. This speaks volumes for how fun the combat actually is. Were this game yet another random RPG doing the same-old, same-old... I would not have finished it now... 9 times?

Your character's gear is completely fluid... meaning that you may choose any type of armor your wish to wear, and specializing in any type of weapon you choose. You have the ability to install "Implants" which grant you various abilities , such as increased health, health injections (think health pot, or estus flask), health on brutality, increased energy, treasure sense, toxic gas immunity, GF, etc etc etc. Any weapon you find can be leveled up, along with armor.

The setting is a Sci-Fi industrial dystopia... the industrial theme is prevalent throughout as you are working your way through the heart of a multi-national corporation's scientific and technical launch facility.

You play Warren, and Warren is anything you wish he or she to be. I, personally, like to think of my Warren as a STUNNING AND BRAVE transwoman who is also transracial while being hadicapable. So, you want to play as a beautiful woman? Warren identifies as a beautiful woman. You want to play as a wise cracking, 1940's film noir detective? Warren can identify as such. Warren is the tabula rasa of your imagination.
