The tutorial made the game seem promising but all the maps we tried are broken and unplayable.

By broken do you mean they don't work at all or that you couldn't figure out how to get through them? All maps (except Tutorial and Solo, Race servers) have to be played together with others. So you need to play on a server with other players, and help each other to get through the map.

The maps aren't broken, you can see people's time of the map by pressing tab. And it's playable, it needs another player most of time.
