Publishers suck. The devs are awesome.

So this game really didn't hold up in terms of testing my patience with the clunkiness and (relatively) large number of units to micromanage... That is, until my internet went out for a few days and I found myself once again at the bottom of my library page - X-COM. Without the distractions I would usually have, I broke through the patience barrier and just got used to it. I rediscovered the joy of sitting with a game for hours, just micromanaging and dealing with the rustic UI. There is a learning curve, but I'd already weathered Nethack, Dwarf Fortress, and other games of *that* kind. It didn't take long for me to start having fun with the weapons and equipping my soldiers with new gear. Combined with looking stuff up that I was unsure of on my phone, it really wasn't too bad.

But man was this game amazing for 1994. If it wasn't for the graphics and UI, I would've believed that this game was designed this decade. I can see how the series is so influential on tactics games even today. I do recommend it if your brain hasn't yet been conditioned by the instant gratification of modern games. Give it a go, it's quite deep.

Do you have around four hours to spare?

Play through this heck of a story. It is something special.

Most visual novel main characters are usually self-insert, personality-less beings. In Muv Luv though, Takeru has his own thoughts, motivations and personality, developing as time goes on. In the beginning he is naive, for some readers uncomfortably so, but please bare with his growth throughout the story. He's supposed to be an ordinary anime boy from a peaceful world, after all.

The game really highlights the effects of mental stresses on Takeru and is well written in that sense. Also it's just pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥' cool.

Highly recommend reading at least the Muv Luv Extra before reading Alternative.

An all time favorite visual novel series. By themselves, the first 2 installments are mediocre, though not boring. However the 3rd installment, Muv Luv Alternative, changes it all as the top rated visual novel on VNDB.
Highly recommend the series, please read the first part before going onto Alternative!

Having a lot of fun with this game. I can micromanage as much as I like. Very fun to approach situations as you desire; stealthy and fast or taking it slow and loud behind your shields and shotguns.

Don't let 2d graphics put you off, it got Best Tactics game of 2014 for a reason.

Would not recommend if you aren't patient enough to micromange, and even then you can have decent success (though without optimal level completions).

Buggy since it's still alpha.
Looks very fun.
Lags a damn lot, more than any other game I have (even on lowest settings), but it will prob be better later.

Most of the problems are because it's an alpha, so all good.

Nice game.
Don't need to grind if you dont want to; finished the game without any grinding that you see in other rpg. I don't think its worth the $30 when it goes off sale.

So hard and so fun.
Some stuff pisses me off like lag of people/queue times, but it can't be helped.
Occassional bugs and crashes also piss me off but that's not much of a problem.
