This game is aimed to be a co-op experience, if you play solo then expect to get bored really fast in it, because it just sucks. Besides, the whole idea of unlocking and exploring areas to progress further into story is nonsense, you basically have to grind all the side missions to see at least something related to the main story, and accordingly, completing those side missions takes a handful of time.
