This review is meant for people who've played other Monster Hunter games.

I've played every Monster Hunter game since Monster Hunter: Freedom 2. Monster Hunter is my favorite game franchise. Monster Hunter: World introduces many new and different mechanics, but is still at it's core a Monster Hunter game.

Changes to the game I dislike:

Story mode - You must go through parts of the story solo until you reach a certain point. This means that if you and friends want to progress quickly, you all end up doing the same story quest solo and then abandoning it once you complete a cutscene, Just to re-post the quest and do it together. It should have been easy to incorporate full multiplayer throughout the story.

Multiplayer scaling - Monster health and resistances (to KO, status effects, and breaking parts) is multiplied by around 2.2 once anyone joins your quest. The multiplier is much too high for part breaking. This means that unless your team is coordinated and focuses on each part to break, you definately won't break every part. Because of this, it can easier to farm for specific materials only attainable through breaking parts solo.

No Guild hall or village quests - It's all solo or multiplayer. In previous games, soloing quests from the guild hall (or doing high level guild quests in MH4U) was a fun way to challenge yourself. Now you must go on quests with people and disconnect in order to have more challenging solo quests.

Other changes:

Decorations - While I don't entirely dislike this change, I much preferred charm farming (& GQ set farming in MH4U). Once you get near end game, you start obtaining decorations in the quest rewards. Decorations and slots have 3 levels; a level 2 decoration can be equipped into a level 2 or 3 slot, but not level 1. Armor pieces still have up to 3 slots. The end game is Decoration farming.

Overall, this is an excellent game, even with the changes I disliked. Buy it.
