I am only a few levels in and I'm loving it so far. The combat and gameplay is smooth and satisfying, but is much more structured than DOOM 2016, there are certain strategies that you must use to succeed. The glory kills will always surprise you and you really get to jump straight in from the first level into a lot of combat. Everything feels familiar but still really fresh due to a lot of small changes in how the game works (secrets and collectibles are different, items look different). Performance for me is consistently 60fps on max settings (with very rare dips to 40 minimum), which is awesome because my graphics card is 5 years old. Outstanding game so far, will update this review as needed.

UPDATE: I finished this game a few weeks after my initial review, but never updated it. So here it goes:

The game was overall very satisfying and fun, and is definitely my favorite FPS to date. Combat stays fresh and fun throughout the whole game. The beginning is a little rough, but it's designed that way so that you can get down the fundamentals of combat early on and then have fun later. As the Slayer's arsenal increases, there becomes more room for mistakes, which I like. You have a little more room to be creative and do your own thing in combat as the game progresses as well. The majority of my deaths were in the first half of my playthrough. But even though the combat gets easier, some curveballs are thrown your way that you must figure out how to deal with (I played on Ultra-Violence my first playthrough).

Level design is very good and very unique from DOOM (2016). I didn't find one level that was too similar to one in the previous game, and I was consistently surprised with the new out-there styles. The levels become much less linear as you go on, and I especially like the ones that you complete segment by segment, slowly unlocking the whole level.

So, an amazing game, I definitely recommend. After you get everything down the game just becomes a joy to play, shredding demons to your heart's desire. I usually never write reviews this long, so that shows I really enjoyed it.
