YOU SEE THIS BANDAI NAMCO? YOU SEE THIS? THIS IS THE KINDA EXPERIENCE YOU COULD PROVIDE PLAYERS IF YOU STOPPED SHOVELING 60€ VERSUS AND TRAINING MODES.

Ahem

Very good game. Street Fighter 6 provides a complex and robust fighting system for both non-competitive and competitive fighting game fans. The system mechanics might feel overwhelming to boot, but the trade-off is a more looser feeling Street Fighter where regardless of rank the game stays more dynamic than previous entries.

The Singleplayer offerings are good though I wish the way the game eased you into some of the system mechanics was a bit more gradual. Some of the Sub-Quests meant to teach you certain concepts I feel come way later than when the player gets access to said tool, and new players getting access to the entire Drive System at the same time I feel is a mistake. Having the game give them more Drive mechanics as their Drive Gauge grows over the course of the levelling and Main Story I think would've been a better way to teach players unfamiliar with the systems.

Though that is not to say that the game does a poor job in teaching those who are looking to get good, the game features an extensive library of guides and helpful tools for new players to get into the Versus Fighting and the introduction of Modern Controls - while it could have rammifications for the longterm balance of the game - is very welcome and I personally take no issue with it's implementation.

The monetization aspects of the game aren't fully revealed yet as we haven't gotten an announcement in regards to when we can expect the Fighting Pass to startup. Then there's other things like the plentifulness of earnable currencies like Drive Tickets, cost of time-exclusivity based Avatar Cosmetics and price of separate Costume purchases. Considering the state of the offerings at launch, I don't have my hopes up that it will be very consumer friendly. It will most likely go the route of many popular F2P cash stores found in other competitive games which is worrisome considering the full price nature of this game.

It still stands though that as packaged here now at launch, the game is still worth the price tag in my eyes. It might be monetized like a F2P Live-Service game in the future, but it launched with the contents of a full game which already puts it leagues ahead most other games that feature Battle Passes and premium cosmetic purchases.

I hope other fighting game developers take note of SF6 and push for similar content offerings in the future, it feels like SF6 is the first giant step taken forward to modernize the idea of the Fighting Game other than just offering more accessible game systems we've seen so many other developers do.

When I was younger I was always looking forwards to what kind of developments were going on with big gaming giants, while I'm too young for most of these things, seeing Zelda go from it's initial entry, to the N64 games, to the handheld games and so forth was always exciting and I wished in many ways fighting games could see similar evolutions in some capacity. Soul Calibur always offered RPG-esque singleplayer modes, but still never let us peer into the world beyond the stages. Now seeing Street Fighter, - the de facto parental figure of this entire genre - make that step first leaves me hopeful that this will be the the golden standard moving forward.

5 Toes out of 5, would do an interlocked foot handshake under the bathroom stall with my fellow Juri mains again.
