I hope this game wins all the awards just to stick it to Nintendo.

1800 hour update: The game itself has had many updates since my last review and I am no longer can support this title or the developer.

So what happened?

Well I had tried to cancel my sub to fo1st after my first year of purchasing it and it had auto renewed before the finish date somehow and neither Steam nor Bethesda would refund me so I paid for a second year. This left a bad taste in my mouth.

Then the scoreboard changed and has progressively gotten more greedy. I understand companies need to make money, but the change to a battle pass system and the increased lack of new rewards for the ever growing grind is awful. Season 20 is about to kick off as of writing and I don't plan to play it. Its almost entirely made up of re-skins. Lazy.

There are many cons I could list here but the final nail in the coffin for me was the "balance updates". Putting in this many hours into a game only to have almost every pain stakingly acquired god roll weapon and armor be nerfed into bland low damage jokes has created an even bigger void for the endgame. There is no reason to continue playing, all guns do the same damage, there is nothing to work toward.

This developer and game were finally starting to move in a positive direction around the Nuka-World and Wastelander update, but after the Microsoft acquisition you could begin to feel the change to greedy, hollow, and lazy product. And now, well. I don't recommend it anymore.


After 1000 hours of playing Fallout 76 here is my conclusion. It sucks, don’t play it. I might give it another 1000 hours and then call it quits, maybe.

Reasons to buy:
You like the world of Fallout.
You want to join a community of non toxic, like-minded, helpful gamers.
You like low stakes.
You like games that get frequent updates, road maps, and mostly positive change.
You are a glutton for punishment and feel like falling into a black hole of lore, rng'ing to find that perfect weapon/armor, and scouring for rare plans and apparel.

Reasons to pass:
You don’t like or want any of the above.

Advice:
If you've played a fallout game, play this one. Its a flawed masterpiece.
If you have never played a fallout game, maybe don't start here. This game can be crazy overwhelming when you first start out.
If you still want to start here and you've never played a fallout game but like the sound of those pros, welcome home.

I dont get this game. It was fun building in the beginning and getting matched with players that were my own level. However now at level 13 i dont stand a chance against these super high tier people they keep matching me up with. The people that are supposely my level somehow are able to have more than 4 sniper towers, 4 bunkers, 4 AA guns, etc... meanwhile it caps me at 2 or 1 and says i cant purchase anymore til i get to a higher level. Its a pay to win game. You buy gold or card packs, those turn into high tier perks, additional base items and better soldiers, and then you win more. Game was fun, but after about 10 hours its turned into a pointless grind of losing all the time.

Update: For some reason many of the units just randomly stop attacking during an attack. They will just stand in an area stuck. Some units also randomly fire at distant objects, for example a far off wall, instead of the units that are firing at them at point blank. Bunkers are useless. Watched a single non veteran medic with no other units, in an open field with two of my bunkers firing at it. take out both of my bunkers before some of my grunts were able to spawn and finally take him down. The daily rations when you pass like day 20 seem to only drop experience/extra card multipliers and the lame 30k munitions. Stopped dropping gold or card packs for awhile now. My veterans are dying even though i havent attacked anyone and i can't grown them or make more as I had to stop attacking all together because everyone has a base that is so far out of my power reach that its just 5 minutes of watching a slaughter. This game has alot going for it but the stuff that is broken makes it a bad experience.

There is so much hacking now its become unplayable. VAC is a joke.
