List of things that went wrong with BF2042:
  • Only Conquest and Breakthrough as main modes.
  • Hazard Zone should have been released as F2P mode - it will die as fast as Firestorm did if they don't do it.
  • Performance is somehow even worse than in beta - and it was already really bad there. Around 70 FPS (which feel more like 30) with Ryzen 5800x and GTX 1080 - same results on 1080p and 1440p.
  • Maps are too big and too empty at the same time. It takes forever to walk from one point to another, and you are never able to call in a vehicle, because they are all taken all the time - usually with one person in them. Trying to get to the objective taken by enemy team on foot is borderline impossible - you always have to cross huge open space, so good luck trying not to die by snipers/vehicles/people just randomly camping in bushes in middle of nowhere. There is almost no cover anywhere.
  • Specialists are okayish - I enjoyed playing as Sundance and Mackay because of their movement abilities. The only "downside" is that you no longer need to play as medic to heal yourself and play with meta weapons, so you won't be revived as often as in previous installments of Battlefield.
  • Breakthrough on 128 players is a mess - it's too hard to take an objective as an attacker or retake it as a defender unless enemy team throws hard - especially the rooftop objectives, where you can call in tanks and other vehicles. There are just too many players.
  • Portal browser is (or at least was in Early Access) full of "1 HP XP/Weapon/Attachment Farm" servers.
  • Portal servers are disbanded after everyone leaves - there is no way to form a server community like in older Battlefields :(
  • Playing on Portal servers hosted by your favourite content creators is amazing experience - just because of the "community" factor.
  • Lobbies in AOW are disbanded after match - again, community factor is gone.
  • Lack of voice chat is not a big deal - honestly I have never seen anyone use it, and I'm playing Battlefield since BF3 release.
  • Most of the weapons feel bad - PP29 is the only one that is enjoyable to use, SVK is a DMR that can kill in 2 hits even on long distances, PBX is "ok" and M5A3 was nerfed really hard after beta, but at least it's not as bad as others. I hope that they will buff rest of the weapons instead of nerfing PP29 hard.
  • Hovercrafts are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
  • Hovercrafts are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
  • Did I mention that hovercrafts are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? They are literally more "tanky" than tanks, they are fast and easy to maneuver and turret literally shreds through infantry.
  • Matchmaker is bad - I get Renewal in like 50% of my matches and I got Manifest and Kaleidoscope only 4 times.
  • Some servers get stuck in start phase and no one can spawn.
  • Animations are janky.
  • Full of bugs - you can't revive if someone dies next to the wall, parachute only works 50% of the time, sometimes you randomly die if you jump on the box, sometimes vehicle call-in doesn't work at all, sometimes you can't see that your teammate is in fact your teammate because their nameplate disappeared, sometimes you can't even damage someone with guns and you can only knife them to kill them, sometimes you turn invisible and you can kill everyone without them even seeing you, etc. There are so many of them that this game feels like an alpha.

At this point this game is not worth it at all - wait until they fix performance, servers and gunplay, redesign Breaktrough for 128 players, add more cover and POIs to all maps and fix all the gamebreaking bugs. IMO this game would have been much better if they just used old-gen versions of the maps and 64 players.
