I've had this game for years, essentially since it showed up on Vaati's video about alternate souls-like games to try while we waited on news for Sekiro. It's my favorite souls-like apart from actual Souls and the lore and gameplay are absolutely phenomenal. I've even bought the Switch version back when they were selling the Drowned Tome edition because it's honestly just a fun game.

Legitimately, I cannot recommend it anymore. Gameplay is still fine, lore still great, artstyle still charming. The new patch, 1.0.0.9 that they just released makes practically every single aspect of the game better, except for the fact they removed 'long-jumping'. Essentially, if you jumped and rolled at the same time, you would be able to leap massive distances. Regardless of the speedrunning community, of which I am not part of but I know enjoyed this mechanic, it was massive fun for regular players like me. You could just zip around and go haywire, pair it with the Obsidian Tower and massive STR stat and you could zip up to an enemy at light speeds and explode them into a big red splatter before they could react. Legitimately so. much. fun.

And now, years after release, when the community has adopted the long-jump as a left in mechanic, similar to backwards long jumping in Mario 64, or facestabbing in Dark Souls, or literally any other fun tiny mechanic bug like that, the devs have randomly decided to remove it. Salt and Sanctuary felt like it was meant to be played with the long-jump in mind, as otherwise it feels painfully and offputtingly slow. Death's Gambit, Blasphemous, etc all have these slower gamespeeds baked into their designs, but Salt and Sanctuary was special in that it was the only 2D Souls-Like that could match the gamespeed of the later Souls games like DSIII, Elden Ring, and Bloodborne. Now, its reduced to a painfully and awkwardly slow gamespeed for no discernible reason, and its replayability suffers for it. This is my Day 1 of praying for a rollback to this change, as it is truly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ baffling as to why it happened at all. Also Day 1 of praying they add long-jumping into the sequel. Until they add it back in, I can't recommend the game as it is just so painfully, boringly slow and tedious, even worse than the Moonlight Butterfly fight from DSI

Early Access Review
If you're more of a fan of the arcade aspects of skating games, like pulling off trick combos, perfect combo lines, bailing, etc. then this game won't exactly be for you.

The learning curve is steep, very steep, especially since you have to constantly keep track of feet placement in relation to the direction you're skating as well as the skateboard's position under you. Even with all that being said, if you're able to get past all that, this game is the most satisfactory skating sim yet.

Pulling off even a simple boardslide on a rail is an achievement, and that's not taking into account the modifications you could add in. Pulling off any sort of line and replaying it through the film editor makes you feel accomplished, more so than any other game in the genre, I think. Simply, if you care more about the SKATING aspect than the GAME aspect, definitely buy. Otherwise, I don't think pouring the time needed to master the controls gives back enough enjoyment to warrant time spent.

Basically, the game is objectively broken, pandering towards people who main survivors and are too bad at other asymmetrics. Survivors are in complete power most of the time, with a viable strategy literally being one survivor finishing generators while the other three just swarm the killer like badgers in heat with flashlights and medkits. In that light, good job to the dev team for either intentionally or accidentally stumbling across this market.

If you get this game with friends, however, the story changes. With friends, the game is fun to mess around in and just do stupid stuff with, and every now and again you get a cool killer that jiggies out with you and starts dancin'. The game becomes casual as fkc and has little to no consequence as survivors, As killer, it's funny to tunnel someone and watch them explode in anger in post game chat.

tl;dr don't expect a polished, balanced game from this. Expect a one-sided experience that only really gets fun if its 2am with friends. Otherwise, don't bother, there's better games out there, like White Noise 2.

First off, this game has a practically dead playerbase, so unless you have friends to play with don't expect too much out of this game. That being said, I think White Noise 2 is probably the funnest 4v1 experience I've had of its kind, far better than other competitors like Dead By Daylight or Friday The 13th. Unlike in those other games, a solo survivor still has a very good chance of winning if they know how to outsmart the monster, and the monster isn't completely vulnerable to survivors. Simple mechanics, easy to learn, and many hours of late night fun with sleep deprived friends. Definitely recommend, definitely suggest getting more people to get it so it can revive its playerbase. 6.5/10 solo, 8/10 with friends

The game itself is entertaining enough and is more of a casual, ♥♥♥♥ around soulslike. That being said, don't take this game too seriously, as it becomes blatantly obvious from the moment you get to the title screen that it has very little care and individuality to it. The mechanics are practically ripped straight out of Souls, with tiny adjustments to make it look different but it doesn't play too differently. Code Vein also takes some areas and even music straight out of Souls, the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood is literally Anor Londo, but worse, and I swear I could hear Twin Princes during Successor of the Ribcage. The aesthetic is heavily modeled after Tokyo Ghoul, specifically, with blood veils being reskinned kagunes and the monsters invoking the look of kakujas, among other things. As for the plot, dialogue, and characters, it will remind you of the Granblue Fantasy anime in the sense that you can easily predict the next fifteen lines of dialogue given how one dimensional and overused the character types they use in the game are. They have this sad, emotional track they will play over and over and over again so you know when to start bawling. And the plot itself isn't anything too special; big cataclysm happen, humans try fix, oh god goh ♥♥♥♥ they made it worse, try fix new mistake, end credits.

Everything being said, the game has very little actual soul put into it, and it feels more like a frankenstein fanfiction than anything. Nonetheless, it's still honestly enjoyable to just run around and mow down the enemies, some of the bosses are quite fun, the entire game can be seen as a comedy and I've had quite a good amount of laughs because of how stupid the writing is, and there's anime girls with big bagaganzonkers appearing every few minutes. If you think you can ignore how manufactured it is, go ahead and turn your brain off and enjoy it. If you can't do that, don't bother as you will seethe within minutes.

You can replay this game for weeks and weeks and never get bored. Always something new to do and another path to go. The final boss is truly difficult, the path getting there is unforgiving, and ship customization is nearly endless. Worth the buy if you're looking for something on the harder side, not for those who rage-quit easily though!
