About as exciting as a funeral.

Good addition - barring the bugs. I much prefer the western front, and the game does good job of creating the bocage and tough visibility. AI likes to throw itself into you and frankly are dumb as rocks, but there are enough of them to create quite a challenge (for me at least) even on easier setting, and your tanks are destroyed almost imemdiately they see action.
Is it worth the price? Yes, if, like me, you really don't care for one snowy miserable peasant village after another in Ostfront.
There's still a lot wrong with this - from tank pathing (they won't use reverse half the time) to troops refusing to move and fire, but I'm enjoying it all the same. Weakest elements are your own troops (you have to micro manage every man or they just stand there and die), and the enemy AI is frankly suicidal. This is really a thunbs sideways - I'd wait until the improve it before buying.

Bought this (with a kind gift from a friend) hoping the devs might fix the disaster of the latest update (and full game priced DLC!) so I could enjoy over Christmas.

It's basically the same as MOW Assault Squad 2 - same gameplay, even the same UI buttons and actions. But it feels different enough at the sale price to buy, and has a better, grittier feel and look than the cartoony MOWAS2. Once they can get it working, I will be happy to say it's a good game.

Unfortunately, as of 1/18/24 Devs has still not addressed issues varying from slideshow graphics performance to frustrating gameplay problems to crashes since they introduced last update and the Liberation DLC. On that basis, I don't yet recommend this game.

No point in reviewing this - it'll be outdated and left behind before this review gets approved on Steam by TSW 4 or maybe 5. Oh, wait, TSW 4 is already out? So 5 or 6 coming next week?

This is a thumbs sideways. Bought on sale... and it's a drag through an environment something like the Italy edition... without the beautiful landscapes and sunshine and picturesque towns... which are replaced with lots of dark corners, repetitive wandering around in early 2000s game style bunkers, gloom, and rain.
The Ai can be either smart with flanking and shooting you in the back, or astoundingly stupid - so you end up over-preparing... assuming you can put up with an uninspiring and agonizingly slow tech and skill progression. AI mainly relies on swamping you with so many Germans to shoot you run out of ammo and are simply swarmed. As for the additions of the caricature angry American Ranger won over by your hero American protagonist (with the fake British identity and name), the sullen anorexic teenage French resistance leader, and the totally out of place black Scottish female resistance contact (which makes this virtue signalling BS beyond painful) with her bulging eye thyroid problem and blue truck which seems invisible to the Germans, this makes the Afrika edition look better than it was.

Nothing to write home about here. At all. Loco models no better than many of the higher quality ones in the original TS game, and lanscapes that are painfully dull, deserted and flat, with ugly stand-outs like concrete cows, empty streets, and straw bales that look like huge, blobby Stonehenge blocks. And as for the politically correct 110lb female fireman who NEVER stops stoking, that's just pathetic. Would definately not recommend this.

As per other reviews, this is very similar to RE1 except they provide multiple world geographies instead of selling them to you as DLCs (although the different landscapes suffer the same as the RE1 all looking the same but with appropriate city names and renamed goods. Graphics are marginally better - except the 30ft tall grass growing in the streets - looks really stupid.

Summary
It's just missing something to give satisfaction. It's just, well, slow. At the most basic level, I think it's that there is no satisfaction with cities - they just seem like overcrowded towns, satisfying them is like having a bad girlfriend - a constant game of frantic appeasement and catch up, there no sense that they really seem happy.

The Bad
Sounds are lack luster, and I want to shoot those bloody dogs who bark incessantly in every city, and there is no no day/night option (like there is in RE1). Basic things like falling snow and rain would be expected today at this pricepoint, but there is none of that, and bugs like cities suddenly stopping accepting a type of goods despite needing them (and then consequently shrinking or not growing) means there are problems under the hood which need to be addressed.

The Good
The cartoon people and ridiculous train by train staffing of RE1 are gone - and good riddance.
If you play long enough, the cities begin to look like something other than unkempt, grass-filled shanty villages inhabited by hoards of shambling zombies, the trains are actually better than a three legged donkey with a bad attitude, and you get used to a unconvincing scales and distances, it becomes quite pleasant to connect the more tricky locations and watch the action and the money rolling in.

Conclusion
At this point it's not worth the price - but if $ is no object, give it a try. Once they patch it up and add some functionality (at least put back what is already in RE1) I think it'll be a decent sequel.

A no brainer - very nice addition for a game that his been developed and improved by a team without arrogance, with love and passion for the product and its community, and without DLC greed. Very, very rare commodities in what has become an arrogant, broken and corrupt industry. You listening, D***is?

Buy this for the additions - but mostly buy it as a way to say "thank you!" to the devs and publisher for an outstanding game.

Early Access Review
I think "Early Access" is a bit of an understatement. It's got a long way to go to replace Atlantic Fleet which remains the outstanding turn based naval game out there today - years after it was released. I tried it but refunded - and will try again if it continues to improve.

Not recommended at this time.
