What is there to say that hasn't been said? The balancing between teams and the importance of cooperative gameplay really shines bright with this game and it's going to be a long time before a new game can emulate this play style. That said, this review will be related to the current multiplayer community experience.

Current Multiplayer Community Pros-
-Always people online. L4D2 constantly has players online. If you're looking to play, join in on an already active game. If you're looking to start a new lobby, it may take a little longer, but give it some time!
-Community servers constantly updating with no modes. Bored of Vanilla? Try out a Hentai Rape server and play some campaign infected
-Quite often you'll find yourself playing with the same players you had upon starting the match. If someone doesn't gel well with your team, there's always a kicking option.
-Make some great friends through the game. Since it's co-op you talk a lot. You'll find yourself working with team mates and finding you sync well and bam now you're on Gmod or Borderlands playing games together.

Cons-
-Community is nearly 6 years in. Some players have over 5k hours so expect to get your ass kicked a lot. The reason this is a con though is because the community can be rather vitriolic about this. If you're not good, you're kicked almost instantly.
-Some players have so many hours that they start griefing. If not on their own accounts they make a new one and buy the game when it's on sale and grief with those.
-Because it's co-op you need to talk, and because this is a video game community, you're going to run into some of the most autistic people on the planet. They will rant and rage against their own team when everything is their fault. It's infuriating.

For the most part, you need thick skin for this game's community. That, or start playing with your friends (since I'm sure a lot of them already have it) and join games with a full team. Risking randoms can be stressful. That or download a ton of the community campaigns like Questionable Ethics and the like. All in all, this game is worth your purchase. Don't buy it right away though, cause this game goes on sale EVERY CHANCE IT GETS!

I might add, or well I did intent to but the previous comment exceeded the maximum allowed characters, that I do agree with some of the points you make. We probably have a different experience with the game because, arguably, you haven't played a great deal of it. People should check this game out, it's great fun once you get into it!

The add-on campaigns can be quiet fun as well, but versus is (imo) the mode that keeps the game alive! :-)

"going to run into some of the most autistic people on the planet."
I'm not sure if you know what autism is, but that makes me doubt that you do. Do not use words you don't understand, it makes you look like a bit of an idiot. (Even more so if you try to give a negative connotation to something that really shouldn't have one.)

Few mistakes I might point out.
1) Lobbies can take a long time to fill up, depending on when you play.
2) Playing for the long haul? Yes, my team does because I play with people I know, the enemy team changes after each round due to people ragequitting. (+1 anyone?)
3) Since it's co-op, you'll talk a lot? Sorry, a lot of people do not actually do this. More experienced players tend to, but surely not everyone.
3) 40 minutes/game? Sure, if you subtract the ~5 min waiting after every round for new people, after the previous have ragequit. (But, this is nitpicking I suppose).
