No one knows who's the daddy, the mug points to all of them, and a grand sense of adventure was inherited as well

The irony of how this "joke-review" flew over the head of the guy below me just adds more to the fun factor of it. I mean... he's even trying to dissect the review point by point with a straight face!!!

I think you'd be comparing The Witcher to it as this came out first. I don't think anything about this is Dark Souls except being an open-world RPG, as the combat philosophies are vastly different. I can see Gothic being the closest in comparison. The Witcher is also a bad example as it has a terrible combat system and this doesn't let you customize.
I think the ideas behind this were the basic Western RPG setting and Berserk. Maybe a pinch of Breath of Fire.
