I came because of the song by Musiclide. I stayed because of *gestures broadly at everything*

I was disappointed by this game being free. I expected to pay a dollar as I did on the 360, and as the deep lore pleads.

Though... it does state it's *JUST* a dollar... and if I bought it again, that would be two. The math holds.

A fun time killer every time a patch hits. I'm unsure what it would feel like starting the game new at this point, as I play it a little to unlock the achievements with each update, but that's kept me going for 80+ hours at this point and plan to keep playing for a few hour for every future patch. But having everything available from the get-go when I was drip fed everything? I have no idea what that experience would be like!

Update -
I've now started playing it on GamePass on my Xbox, so now I have a bit of the fresh account feeling. It's certainly weird going from *EVERYTHING* to "I'm so slow!" - but new things trickle in just as I remember. A bit faster tho, since now I'm not waiting for random updates!

I've played for nearly 90 hours at this point and haven't even fought the third boss yet. Been having too much fun building things.

Plays surprisingly like the first game, yet with it's own feel thanks to 3D.

For what it's worth, this game has been a shining example of "alpha" vs "beta" - Alpha = not feature complete. Entire game systems might be missing.

I've been playing this game since Alpha 2 or 3, popping back every once and a while. And boy have new systems been added when ever I come back.

It's been years, and these guys have been slowly but surely adding things they said they'd add. Kudos! I look forward to seeing a complete game one day - this is one team of developers that I trust to get things done. Slow and good is much better than Fast, burnout, and abandoned!

I think I liked the first game a bit better only because cursed [element] is just annoying. But the native 4 player coop and mixed class skills is nice.

Also damn there is so much game here.

The resteraunt was a bit pricy and there is only ever one movie playing, but the cactus was friendly and Dracula gave me a nice glass of water when I needed it.

10/10 would set bees on fire again.

This game was extremely hard for me to get into, but now it's one of my favorites.

The currency had me confused, and, by extension, the vendor system just felt bad.

The passive skill tree looked AMAZING... but I simply could not comprehend it.

The magic system looked just like one of my all-time favorites - Materia of Final Fantasy VII fame.

Try as I might though, from closed beta, to various major releases, I could barely pull myself though normal difficulty. I wanted to do everything on my own. I looked up no guides, no wikis... nothing. I don't recall trying to do so intentionally, just... something else came around before I got to that stage.

Then, when Ascendancy came around, something just clicked. I logged onto my original character from Closed Beta (he never cleared Normal, and was probably my strongest character somewhere around mid 30s to low 40s. I looked at his skills, and actually looked up how viable my goal for that character was. Turned out? Really damn viable, if I used the right skills.

Then, I really learned how to play.

I looked up guides, researched vendor reciepes. Figured out how to link and use utility skills.

These days, I play somewhat regularly (mostly using the standalone client, so my hours reflected here are but a fraction). I'll jump into every league for one character. I'll pick a skill and do what *I* want with it, and screw whatever flavor of the meta builds exist. Dual Wielding Mjolners and use FRENZY? Yeah, that's my next build. I already know it's bad, but that doesn't matter, because it'll be FUN (and I'll probably just drop Frenzy if it can't progress the way I want).

If Diablo 2 was one of your most favorite games ever, then you owe it to yourself to learn how to play this one. It isn't that hard - all you really need is to look up guides, and learn how to trade. Sky's the limit.
