This is hands down the best RPG of this style that I've played. They've maintained the corrected translation of the dialogue and story of the PSP release. But the systems all around have seen nothing but improvements.

The game is beautiful. The blend of 2D sprites and 3D environment is incredible. The beautifully rendered visual art for dialogue is very striking. Motoi Sakuraba's new arrangements for the release are all such ear-dazzling improvements over their original. The systems in the game such as item creation and skill leveling were already extremely in-depth and customizable per character, but they've taken it to a further degree, adding a quest and reward system to Item Creation process and providing more information to you as a player in making choices.

The world map is now back in much higher detail, some events were changed to make them less avoidable so you don't accidentally miss out on meeting characters and inviting them into you party. THERE IS FAST TRAVEL NOW BY PRESSING UP ON THE DPAD (huge HUGE improvement). It's easier than every to track PA events. All things to bring accessibility and replay-ability to a higher quality.

And the combat. Ooooo the combat. The blindside system was a shock to me when I played the demo. But the additional of the bonus board, enemies being present on the overworld and being rewarded for doing chain battles, and a new system that allows you to summon additional party members and Star Ocean characters from other games just increase game feel tremendously.

This was one of my first RPGs that I sought out as a child, played on my own, and completed. It means the world to me. And to have it back in my hands in such quality, I cannot recommend this remake enough as a starting point for those who want to see what Star Ocean is all about.
