I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game, wish there were more like it. Simple, but extremely fun and intense for hours.

Run horribly. Graphics update isn't that great. Lots of small but stupid changes, like the icons for your armor are now ghastly. Seriously, a remaster of this game shouldn't be as bad as this is. I loved the hell out of Kingpin, this was sad. I didn't refund in hopes that the developers iron out the issues, but sadly this doesn't get a pass from me.

Just finished the main story line, really enjoyed the game. I'll say that it has it's janky moments and bugs, but if you can look past those, it's pretty enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing the community come together and expand this and really polish it up

Great graphics, but a fundamentally flawed game. While I did play through it, and beat it. I can't see myself playing it any more. While it's a "rouge-like" it actually isn't, while I enjoy rougelikes, this borrows some elements from the genre and doesnt do a good job balancing them together. Ill give a couple examples.

It's a game where you have to build up gold per run then to spend on upgrades. The thing is though, its not really possible to beat the game until you've died a bunch of times. So it forces you to rerun it over and over, which is fine for a roguelike, but the problem isn't that you're getting better exactly, you're just playing for long enough to have the game lower it's own difficulty for you. So in that sense, a game like spelunky where you can beat it all the way through in a run, is nice, and in theory something like this seems nice. But then once you're close to beating the end boss and have maxed out all your upgrades, all those lower bosses that were enjoyable boss battles once, just become chores.

Lack of clarity for a variety of complex mechanics. I was on a good run recently, I picked up a "curse" bottle. thinking it was something I could drink, or swap out, I went ahead and picked it up, anticipating I might find a "clear 5 curses bottle". upon picking it up, I got like two dozen curses. it basically ended my run right there in the most painful way possible. What the game made seem like a slight debuff was a slap in the face. While roguelikes are painful, and unforgiving, they are at least fair generally. Well, at least the good ones are (which is why I'm saying no on the recommend)

Uninspired procedural generation. Collecting gold, running through maps, its all just a huge chore. The game was fun for a little bit, and if you enjoy a grind then get a playthrough out of it, but it's all just so grindy, and unrewarding at the end. I'm kind of left with, why??

I hate to say it, because the art is great, and I feel there was a ton of love dumped into that. But unfortunately, amazingly smooth pixel art doesn't translate a quality game. The guy has some great pixel art of his dogs. That's cute and all, but I was left asking myself when seeing those. How many hours went into this art? and how many hours went into game design? I feel like the relics obviously had a ton of game design theory put into them for all the ways they affect mechanics, but then the problem is that it's all just a slot machine. You're just hoping for a lucky run where it drops the right combo of items and doesn't hit you with too many "gotcha" situations for a win. It's a roguelike in the worst ways in that, it's not skill can prevail a bad run, it's that a good run is dependent upon your lucky pickups, and maybe you can win off of that.

Great game. First game I've played in a long time that I felt was freshly original. While it does borrow heavily from different genres, the way it remixes them together is unique and original, quite worth getting and putting some time into. I know I haven't beat the game all the way through yet, but I can't stop playing, it's really good.

Original Review: Such a great game, just get it. It's better than I was expecting, and I was expecting a lot. 10/10

Updated Review: After the updates and everything, I wanted to give a further review. I love this game on a deep level, it's really an incredible game, nothing I've ever played is like it. When I was a kid and I thought to myself how amazing video games would be in the future, this is what I envisioned. It's just fun in ways that many other games I've played just aren't even close to. I've completed the main story line with all optional objectives, that's just how much I enjoyed it. It's not only creative, but its a puzzle, an action game, strategy, driving, explosions, just everything. Even though there are things I'd really like in the future for the game, I'm gunna give it a legit 12/10, it's just great in ways that other games cant compete with an makes me realize that games can be so very much more than they are now, and legit makes me excited for the future of games.

AMAZING. 10/10

It can be tough at times, sometimes the bosses are challenging, but once you figure out the pattern and follow it, it's not too tough. It was so good, I had to beat it twice right away (rare for me to do another playthrough right away) and was able to beat the whole thing in about a day the second time around. If you grew up in the 8/16 bit era, this is for you.
