A rough gem of a game does so much right and so little wrong. Readability can be an issue, balance is a bit wonky, but those are minor things in regards to everything else.

It has such a unique setting and feeling. The gameplay is tough, just tough enough to reward careful planning and execution. The skill balance is good, and the dice are visibly rolled on screen which already gives it a whole letter grade up for me. All I want is more classes/background and for my background/class to come up a bit more in dialogue.

I just finished Act 1 and feel I have experienced enough to place a review before I play further:

The game is good, very good.

I have played many CRPGs, and the one I can actually compare this the most to is Tyranny, by Obsidian. You play as a man with absolute authority, under righteous protection from The Holy Throne to enact the Emperor's will as you see fit. This can mean executing officers, forcing your companions to introduce you to others, and even destroying entire planets without any real repercussion. Or, you can be a scheming heretic, who makes deals with the seedy underbelly of a corrupt government, all while under the guise of a noble captain.

Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't choices with consequences. It just means that the law won't be on your back for killing people in the streets; you ARE the law.

The companions are funny. They aren't at a Baldurs Gate or KotOR level, but they are interesting and serve a good enough purpose. Very similar to other Owlcat titles. The romance is barebones, but honestly I don't know why the game has romance to begin with. LGBT options especially are lacking for players, just so everyone is aware.

There ARE some bugs. Some softlocks, glitches, and such. It is still a better launch than I expected, but definitely save often and on multiple files.

Finally, the combat is honestly the best part. The attacks feel so meaty and brutal, and the gore is almost mesmerizing. It is honestly very respectful to the grimdark world of 40k. It feels like Killing Floor in my opinion.

I imagine most of the bugs will be ironed out within the first week or two. If you're looking for an entry into the 40k universe, this is your game. It requires no background knowledge, and has a good compendium that doesn't overload you too much.

2K launcher is Adware garbage that opens connections to sell your data. Uninstall or refund if you can.

Otherwise good game though if you wanna play it while offline

Excellent game where you can do excellent things. Worth the learning curve 100%.

Excellent metroidvania that takes a lot of inspirations from Super Metroid specifically. Unfortunately, this inspiration does end up making it feel and play like a clone almost. However, the unique upgrades and wide arsenal of weapons makes up for this. The areas are interesting, however tend to not be as diverse from one another when compared to a game such as Super Metroid or Hollow Knight.

However, still one of the best metroidvanias i've played. It's worth it just for the soundtrack and fun boss fights.

8/10, didn't last long enough to tide me over until silksong, but the main character has some crazy sideburns.
