I love playing video games. It’s one of the few things that keeps my bitter, meaningless life going and adds some fun to it.

This review comes from someone who hates RPGs and has never played a CD Projekt Red game before (I dislike the logic that you can't kill a level 10 enemy with a level 5 nuke, but somehow you can with a level 20 toothpick). I didn’t expect much from this game, despite being insanely hyped for it when it was first announced. But over time, with all the negative reviews, I completely lost interest. That was until Update 2.0, Phantom Liberty, and the amazing Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series came along. Suddenly, I was obsessed and wanted to play again.

Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that demands powerful hardware, which meant I missed out because my main PC is a laptop with an RTX 3050 Ti. It just couldn’t handle the game well enough for a smooth experience. However, with the recent update that added AMD FSR 3 and improved performance, I was finally able to play the game much more smoothly—and I bought it without hesitation.

And wow, this game is absolutely incredible! The RPG mechanics didn’t feel weird to me at all. Enemies being bullet sponges makes sense in this world, considering that they’re cyber-enhanced. It’s totally logical that they can take more hits than normal, and I was okay with it.

The story is phenomenal. The way the narrative unfolds based on your choices during missions and dialogue is just brilliant. I love the reasoning, logic, and decision-making of every character in the Cyberpunk world, even the minor NPCs. Every single character feels alive and fits perfectly into the dystopian futuristic setting. They’re all memorable and full of charm! The main story is deeply engaging with high replayability, and the side stories and quests are just as interesting. Not only do they immerse you further into the world and its characters, but they’re also rewarding and impact the main storyline. I was completely invested.

If you’re already a fan of the dystopian Cyberpunk theme, the lore of this game is incredibly deep and fascinating. There's tons of content to read, and I highly recommend going through it all—it’s worth it, even if it makes your eyes hurt!

The gameplay is solid, especially as an FPS. The gunplay is done well, with satisfying weapon feedback. However, the swordplay and melee combat feel quite basic—nowhere near the quality of games like Dishonored or Killing Floor. In fact, hand-to-hand combat is pretty terrible. So, if you’re into close-quarter combat and melee, the game feels just average. It should have been better. On the other hand, the stealth and hacking systems are well-executed and challenging, yet a lot of fun.

The character movement, though, was a bit of a letdown for me. I’m used to games with fast, smooth, and fluid movement, and Cyberpunk feels like it should be one of those games—but it isn’t. The controls feel clunky and somewhat unresponsive. I kept wishing the movement was faster and more fluid, like in Dying Light. It just feels... I don’t know, a little awkward and sluggish?

Visually, the game is stunning. The neon-lit world is a cyberpunk fan’s dream come true. I absolutely love it! This might be the best-designed open-world city in any game, with an incredibly detailed map that’s not only vast but also deep. Every corner, every spot is memorable and worth exploring. The artwork and in-game ads perfectly complement the immersive experience. Honestly, it feels like you could live in this world—it’s that well-crafted. It’s a shame I can’t play with maxed-out graphics or Ray Tracing, but even without them, the game looks fantastic. Of course, this comes with the downside of the game being super demanding on hardware, and I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that the performance still isn’t as optimized as it could be. Oh, and yes, there are still some odd bugs—like physics glitches and NPCs randomly T-posing or floating in mid-air—but thankfully, they don’t affect gameplay, though they do break immersion a bit.

The sound design is top-notch. The voice acting is great across the board, and the soundtrack is unforgettable. If you’re into electronic, industrial, techno, and alternative punk rock, this game’s music is heaven for you.

Also, there are tons of mods made by the community that can fix, enhance, and improve almost anything you want, making the game even better if you prefer to mod it. It’s another reason why the game can be tailored to your liking.

I could go on and on because there’s so much more I want to talk about, but to keep it short—I highly recommend this game. 9/10. And if you’re a fan of the cyberpunk genre, then 10/10 wouldn’t even be an exaggeration.
