I've given this game way too many chances and yet it failed to do anything even remotely positive with these chances.
Serious Sam 3: BFE is what happens when developers decide to copy trends instead of sticking to what they know best. Sprinting, reloading, EVEN MORE HITSCAN ENEMIES - all of these are just symptoms of a soulless game that doesn't care about the SS franchise legacy and wants to appeal to a bunch of CoD loving Xbox players.
One of the first things you'll notice is the absolutely terrifying amount of badly designed enemies. Hitscan enemies, such as Scorpions, have always been a pain in the ass but were used sparingly, unlike grunts and choppers in BFE. Grunts are actually hard to spot in the cluster♥♥♥♥ of chaos happening on your screen and choppers are immune to bullet damage, making it so they can be reliably destroyed with only a single weapon. The worst example of this is during a late game mission, when Sam loses his weaponry and has to take on choppers using the rocket launcher. A sequence like this happens twice and the second time the chopper is way to high to be reliably hit with rockets, yet it retains it's accuracy. It's easy to waste all of your rockets trying to hit this ♥♥♥♥ while being shot at by the big scorpions in the distance.
Then you get the newly added monkey-like enemies that only appear in certain places where columns are present - they're designed to be killed with a wrist attachment you get earlier and serve as nothing but an annoyance. They are the only enemy in the whole main game line up I decided not to fight at all - it's just annoying and tedious.
On top of that they decided to add a "stun-based" enemy, that makes controlling the character impossible, juggles Sam in the air and blurs his vision. Did I mention the enemy is flying and can appear in any place in the air? Or that you can only deal certain amount of damage during it's attack cycle, making it so you can't deal with it instantly?
For some reason developers decided to make Laser and Sniper Rifle secret only weapons. Meaning ammunition for them can be found almost exclusively in secret stashes and only in small amounts. The game also has a glory kill mechanic, that does NOT make it so you can't be damaged during the animation, rendering it utterly useless in almost any situation.

Honestly, I could rant about this mess for hours. Be that poorly designed locations (such as the second level) or horrible visibility (urban environments are not suited for the SS gameplay and enemies simply blend in), Serious Sam 3: Before First Encounter just tries to appease the kind of demographic that doesn't care about Serious Sam at all. If you're a fan of older games - skip 3 and 4 (Siberian mayhem is okay), you won't lose much. If you simply stumbled upon this game, then stumble upon a different one.

I honestly don't understand how a game can be so confused about what it tries to be.
Shame. Real shame.

Made me actually watch a documentary about the Encient Greek pantheon.
I might not be any smarter, but I sure am satisfied with the purchase.

This is a terrible Fallout, but a wonderful game.
If you're here for RPG, forget about it, it's an action game and that's all. But if you want to just explore and build houses for stupid settlers, abusing their labour for your profit as a General of Minutemen while keeping Preston in a cage absolutely alone on a Spectacle Island, then it's perfect for you.
The guns and shooting in general is okay, but the amount of guns themselves is just not enough. No, combat shotgun and combat rifle aren't different guns, they're just mods of a single weapon. About 40% of all weapon mods are just "Deal more damage" when you reach "GUN NUT 1-4".
This game was made by Bethesda and that's all you need to know about the story.
Characters are nice, though.
As a game: 8/10 would nuke again.
As a Fallout: Almsot makes me wish for a nuclear winter.
