Unfortunately, I would not recommend this game based on my first impressions. I was very hopeful for the combat after watching the gameplay videos, and I fear that ultimately this game seems to forget what DOOM is all about. The addition of story told by a voiced main character is a very odd choice for a VR game and to be honest just feels like a waste of the players time. The addition of a hacking game is also a questionable design choice, but either of these could be forgiven if the game had that feel of gruesome destruction and fast paced action.

What I think really killed this game for me was the glory kill mechanic. It looks cool at first but quickly loses it's luster, particularly when you "go beserk" and just teleport into a massive enemy for them to just "pop" into nothingness with a little bit of gore. I understand why the system from DOOM 2016 cannot work in DOOM VFR, but I think at least allowing for the player to punch the enemies to death during glory kills and berserk powerups would provide a much better bad*** feeling.

As a final note, I found the performance to be less than optimal on my i7-4790 and GTX 1060 (6GB). There were frequent stutters and freezes during the glory kills that were very disorienting and made for a very unpleasant time.
