Getting joysticks to work is a pain, which is truly baffling. This game is a blast though, and mods make it even better.

It has music from orbital.

Important and definitive to it's era and medium in a way that only titles like half life 1 and doom can share in.

After my colony nearly starved through winter because an attack by a rabid pack of llamas which killed or maimed everyone that wasn't away on a small expedition, their primary builder and miner was crushed by a mountain.

I put ~200 hours into this game in the span of ~2-3 months. Once you get into the groove and find how you like to play it, it is just a blast.

The learning curve seems steeper than it is. If you can enjoy a slow paced tactical shooter that involves getting killed by things you can't see and waiting to respawn repeatedly, you'll see that this is a gem.

~15 hours in, I really really love this. It is new and shiny enough to impress me (the physics sim feels very very good), but also lightweight and 2d. It manages to remind of nostalgic old space sim experiences while bring truly challenging and refreshing mechanics to the table.

Update: I've now put well over 100 hrs into this and the full release is out. This is an extremely refreshing game that I can easily spend hours at a time playing. The sim and controls are all so user friendly, but the depth allows for complexity as you get further into the game.

If you're interested in hard sci-fi and immersive sims I highly recommend this title. It is absolutely a labor of love and you can feel it.
