I racked up 1000+ hours in FSX, and was ready for an upgrade.
Graphically, this was all I could have ever wanted and more. Customisation and third-party addon wise; we'll still have to wait to get the best of what the sim from two decades ago had.

Doesn't realise that rotors are a fundamental part of a helicopter.

Can be tedious at times, but is overall a great title. Different from anything else I've played.

What can I say... Empires Apart is one of the single best free-to-play games on Steam right now, and it's making me feel nostalgic.

What's the gameplay like?
The gameplay is strikingly similar to Age of Empires, with almost all of the elements seeming like they’ve taken heavy inspiration from the series, even down to the ability to move your sheep. I loved Age of Empires, so I love the gameplay here, too. The mechanics are smooth, the UI is easy to navigate and simple, movement works well (for the most part, sometimes moving between and around walls can be… interesting), and building is simple.

There are seven empires, with all but one, Byzantine, being DLC (more info below).

Playable Empires:
Byzantine Civilization (Base Game)
Arab Civilization (DLC)
Aztec Civilization (DLC)
Chinese Civilization (DLC)
French Civilization (DLC)
Korean Civilization (DLC)
Mongol Civilization (DLC)

And what about the graphics?
The graphics are amazing. I was genuinely blown away at the art style and how almost flawless the graphic design is. Animations are smooth, the scenery is great, there's a wide variety of maps and sizes for greater graphical variation and much more than I could simply list here. Overall, the graphics are top-notch.

How do the developers earn money?
Like any self-respecting F2P these days, Empires Apart earns its cash money from microtransactions. There's no paywall as such, and the game still plays great without any of the DLC, but if you want to unlock any other empire (except for the starting empire, Byzantine), you'll have to cough up for it. Usually, each "Civilization Pack" is A$7.50.

Should I install it?
Yes. Realistically, what do you have to lose? If you're into RTS games or want to feel nostalgic over Age of Empires without paying for the remastered versions, this is definitely worth it. Having said that, if you're not into strategy, this probably isn't for you, though the stellar graphics may be enough to swindle you.

Should I buy the DLC?
It depends. I haven't bought any, but that's because I'm cheap. All of the DLC usually costs A$7.50, with 7 pieces of DLC in total. The DLC is largely cosmetic, with units and buildings varying based on the empire, but in a game where the art style is so impeccable, that’s just about enough to sell me. On top of this, the DLC includes special challenges, game mechanics and heroes.

Fallout 4 is Bethesda’s hit post-apocalyptic role-playing game based in the picturesque (at least, what used to be picturesque) east coast of the United States of America.

What’s the best part of the game?
I find the base building and community building aspects of this title the most entertaining and fun. It’s a refreshing retreat from the wild wastelands and reckless raiders outside the walls of sanctuary. Perhaps the most annoying part of the base building is the requirements for building new items, and how scarce copper seems to be... But all in all, the game’s a blast.

And the worst part?
The very beginning of the game can be difficult at times, but as you progress and unlock new weapons, the game becomes more enjoyable and your rate of survival will exponentially increase. Also, watching your best friend, Dogmeat, being injured or getting down is pretty horrible.

If Steam had a percentage-based rating system, Fallout would lose a solid 10% just because Big Woofer can be downed.

I hear the game’s got references in it…
The game is full of references to the American Revolution and the years leading up to the American Revolutionary War. In the beginning, you travel to Concord, the place of the first battle of the revolution in 1775. In Concord, you enter a revolutionary museum, filled with replica Redcoats and posters, such as Benjamin Franklin’s “Join, or Die” poster.

How’s the DLC
While I don’t have any of the DLC myself, I’ve heard great things about some of it individually (especially about Far Harbour), but critics dismiss the season pass as a waste of cash. If you want the DLC, perhaps pick up the GOTY edition.

Is it worth it?
At a discounted price, Fallout 4 gets a recommendation from me with no reservations whatsoever.

At the full price, look around online to see if the game is your style, and, if so, perhaps pick it up. You (probably) won't regret it.

What is Kingdoms and Castles
Kingdoms and Castles is a medieval city builder where your sole objective is to grow a civilisation, make your people happy and protect your town's occupants.

Is it easy to play?
The game, unlike Cities: Skylines, is really easy to play, straight out of the Steam download queue. The menus are easy to navigate through and the UI is built well and is easily readable and actionable.

What kind of things can you build?
You can build three tiers of residential buildings: Hovels (housing 5 people), Cottages (housing 12 people) and manors (housing 25 people).

Stone mines are crucial to building almost everything apart from the very basic buildings you have access to when you first start up a new game save. Iron mines are useful, but significantly less so than stone.

Storage is really important for any town. Granaries need to be located close to farms as well as houses so workers transport food fast enough to avoid spoiling and so heads of households can collect adequate supplies fast enough.

To keep your citizens happy, you need to provide services for them, such as having active hospitals, taverns and wells (for the sole reason that ♥♥♥♥ burns down A LOT).

Dragon & Viking attacks are relatively frequent and can easily claim multiple buildings (this is especially fun if the building cost gold to build).

How much farmland should I have?
It's fairly easy to forget that your people can starve to death or flee in dismay if you starve them. With a town above a population of 200, you need to dedicate a significant portion of land to the cause and it's generally worth constructing a Noria and aqueduct system within your town to provide fields with proper irrigation.

Is the game well optimised for all types of computers?
The game runs (and looks) fantastic on my GTX 1080 with all settings maxed out but the game runs very nicely on my laptop (i7 6560U & Iris 540 GPU). The game should run nicely on most i5 & i7 devices.

Should I buy it?
Due to the ability to play this game on the go with my laptop (as Cities: Skylines and my 1170 mods doesn't run well) as well as at home on my desktop, this game is truly a 'play anywhere' title. The beautiful graphics, simple mechanics, easy to use UI and playability, this game is a must have.

What is Torchlight II
Torchlight II is an action RPG game developed by Runic Games.

Can you catch fish?
Strange question, child. If you're looking for a great game to fish in, this is the RPG for you.

What modes are there?
You can play Torchlight II by yourself, locally (with someone else on the same WiFi connection as you) or online. Take your pick.

Is there character customisation?
There certainly is. While the customisation isn't very broad, you can choose between a male and female character, their class, hair colour and style as well and more. You can also choose what animal you have by your side. I chose the alpaca, because who doesn't love a murderous ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ alpaca.

Should I buy it?
In the past, I haven't particularily liked RPGs that followed the same style as Torchlight, however, the mechanics, gameplay, ease of use and more make this title extremely appealing.
