I thought this game had potential which was definitely not fully explored. I was one of the people who thought it was gonna be like L4D and ended up disappointed. But, I learned to move away from that idealization and the game actually got a little better. When it first came out there were definitely some bumps which the devs addressed for the most part, but I feel like they also taking away the more enjoyable parts of the game (such as the speed decks). The DLCs also were not so great in my opinion, especially the tunnels of terror. I feel like ultimately they never proved themselves with this game, and after their last DLC "River of Blood" they stated they were moving onto a new game which was pretty shocking. I thought it was first said that they would give love to this game for a while and provide consistent updates but that is definitely not the case.

If the game is EXTREMELY on sale, I would say yeah buy it as it can be fun for a bit. If you plan on playing with 3 other friends, only one of you needs the DLC to actually play the DLC with each other (wish I had known that instead of telling my friends to get the season pass prior). You could also get DLC 2 and 3, and skip the first one in my opinion. I think game devs really need to move away from the idea of saying they were associated with X game, because I feel like it ends with a disappointment for everyone (another example aside from this game is the callisto protocol).

This game is always fun, you will almost never get the same playthrough so it will always feel different. Not to mention once you become a seasoned player there are ways to make it more difficult so it doesn't stop getting more interesting.

For a TLDR: I most definitely recommend the game. It is much easier if you have friends to play with, since I do not think the difficulty changes depending on how many people are in the game with you. It is overall very fun and can get very scary when you are being chased down or getting caught by one of the AIs


Pros:
-Missions are challenging, especially when progressing in levels
-Closing eyes mechanic is great, although I wish it would do more like giving hints torwards finding bonus evidence
-The underground area is very neat, there are so many places to explore and the layout is very neat
-The AI (lucids, sleepers, and the shape) very fun to work around when completing your missions


Cons:
-XP from games could be better, or at least reducing some of the power points required for the later perk levels.
-Some of the major skills are OP (*cough cough* prank call *cough cough*) and some don't feel like they do enough.
-One of the biggest horrors of the game is the dream voice acting, which is a very minimal portion of the game. I am pretty sure if you do listen though and aren't laughing like myself it does tell you more about the background story.
-At some points, the amount of acoustic mines gets very annoying to deal with.
-On the other hand of missions, they can get a little repetitive


With some of the cons stated above, this is an early access game so I imagine the devs will be improving a lot as the game gets devloped more and more. Do not let my cons list dissuade you from purchasing this game, because overall the pros definitely weigh out the cons. I feel that this game will have a very bright future!

Before I get to my reviewish part, let me make this clear. NieR is very worth buying. I enjoyed every second playing it (considering I binged played it to the ending lol).

Overall, this game is very enjoyable. I almost let the reviews of this game make me not buy it seeing all the comments about how it isn't optimized correctly and that it is "broken" and the devs won't fix it. Don't make that mistake though, you download FAR (which is linked by a kind person in one of the reviews) and it should be fine. There are some parts of the game that got a little choppy, but it was never during something important such as a boss fight or skirmishes.

The soundtrack, amazing. The soundtrack in the games is really what makes it for me, and NieR had great songs for each location on the map.

As for the storyline, it's also pretty good. The side missions can become a little overwhelming with how many little red dots are on your map but it isn't anything to worry about too much. I recently just beat it, thinking that it was pretty short, then to realize that this game has 26 ALTERNATE ENDINGS. And honestly, I am looking forward to trying to get most of those endings. The game is a ton of fun and I genuinely enjoy the mechanics of fighting and the different variation of weapons you can have.
