Its very easy to grief other people in this game, so just ask around for help. Most people will make time for you and teach you the basics even if you play solo.

Bought the game in early access, because it looked very cool, and when I played it, it played well for an EA title, it showed a lot of promise.

But it had no endgame to speak of. At the beginning you would place down buildings with interiors. Then you unlock big building without interiors, which are better in every way.

So then you just spam these building untill you die of boredom, because thats all the game has to offer. Endless sprawl, no endgame, no real long term objectives, nothing but sprawl. It was that way at launch, its still that way now.

Early Access Review
Yeah, it's a great strategy game. It takes a long time to finish, about 50 hours to learn and has a lot of delayed gratification.

A game that looks rathers expensive, however if you have autism and/or want to kiss quartermasters/logistics officers on their lips, then this game is an absolute blessing.

If you dont want to do that, or learn logistics, then stick to civ or other x4 games made for normal people.

Suddenly requiring a playstation account to play this game 3 moths after release is scummy and absolutely should not be tolerated.

EDIT: Sony backed down from the mandatory account requirement. So I can recommend this game again. Though be wary if they change their mind.

EDIT2: Changed back to negative. Although sony dropped the psn account requirement, they still dont allow this game to be sold in regions where PSN is unavailable (rougly around 180 countries). To me this whole situation is an extremely poorly managed mess of corporate greed and ignorace.

The gameplay of this game was good since launch day, however everything else about it was terrible at launch and over the course of a year the developers made updates and changes to make the game better. And yeah, the game is undoubtedly better in almost every aspect after the class overhaul.

Unfortunately their insane focus on overmonetizing the cosmetics leaves nothing but crumbs for people who think that spending 40€ on a game should be enough to get you something other than red or grey rags. With the latest paid skins costing 12€ per class, its just ridiculous.

Another thing are the infamous community managers (not all of them) who downplay player concerns, calling us pearl-clutchers and being rather condescending towards the community.

Then comes their handling of purchase bonuses on xbox/gamepass, with players on those platforms getting a lot of premium corrency just for buying the game, whilst everyone else who got a broken and unfinished game a year ago gets called a pearl-clutcher from an above metioned community manager.

And lastly comes the lack of a scoreboard, the reason for being "to avoid player toxicity". Which is stupid, they could have just compared your stats with the average of the rest of the team, or hell, could have shown just your stats. Because how are we supposed to min-max our builds without the porpper tools. All in the name of "positivity". Instead of a report system for punishing toxic players everyone else gets shafted. xoxo enjoy

The new carnival update looks sweet though.

IXION is a cruel mistress, she will beat you if you do something she doesnt like, she will sceam at you for not doing something the way she wants it done and she will cut off your fingers if you do it too late. But she still lets you have sex with her.

That is to say that there arent too many ways to play the game, for example if your population is working under optimal conditions you will not get any explosions at all (you`ll get some accidents, but noone will die and no damage to the ship will be done) but the instant your population is even a single worker short something WILL explode. So its in your absolute best interest to NEVER let your people work in any but the most optional of conditions.

If you play this game in mostly the way it wants you to play it, youll find that it actualy nudges you towards not loosing. Youll have plenty of resources, your sectors will be happy if you build a special building or two and itll try to make you use more efficient and advanced buildings.
For example there is a story mission to collect ~400 ice
-ok so Ive collected it, now what?
-its sitting there and Icant throw it out
-hmm guess ill build some of those algae farms ive been putting off in order to consume it
-oh hey these are pretty good
-cool, now I can even free up space by deleting some of my obsolete insect farms

This is not to say that the game is flawless, I dont like how the events are handled and it made me miss out on some if them. For example, in our solar system there is a base with a special choice that requires authentication which you need to collect from a different base. So I thought Id pick the option to leave only to find that it deletes the event and I cant return to it anymore (this is the point at which I started save scumming, because that ♥♥♥♥ is just not fun or interesting). Theres also the fact that if an event requires resources to be delivered you cant cancel it, if you want you cargo ship to avoid some space weather.

You also cant directly control your mining or cargo ships. So if you want them to return and stay docket at your mothership you have to delete all their work priorities and then set them again when you want them to resume working. There is no "come home quicly children, ♥♥♥♥♥ about to go down" button.

And last flaw Im going to mention is the sector system, more specificaly how it handles resources. Because sectors (you can have up to 6) cant share them directly, thats fine, there is a system which lets you set a desired level of resources in each sector, so that if one sector has more resources than it desires, itll send those resources to other sectors which dont have enough. HOWEVER if you set this to a maximum on one sector and theres a shortage somewhere else youll need to set it low in order for the resources to get where they need to otherwise the station will ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EXPLODE, requiring needless micromanagement. The way to fix this is to add a way to level resources across your entire station or to keep the minimum level how it is not and add an overflow level which will export resources to other sectors. Or maybe this wouldnt work, I dont know, I dont care, I just want this microinducing system reworked.

If you have the money, try this game for 2 hours and then refund it if you dont like it.
