Dark Souls II: A Misguided Pursuit of Difficulty

I recently embarked on the journey through "Dark Souls II," a game that promised to challenge and engage me. However, after approximately 100 hours of gameplay, I'm left with a feeling of frustration and disappointment.

Graphics and Story:
The game's graphics were commendable, and the story was decent enough to keep me engaged. However, these aspects were overshadowed by the glaring issues that plagued my experience.

Difficulty and Enemy Placement:
"Dark Souls II" seems to have misunderstood what made its predecessors enjoyable. The game's difficulty doesn't stem from clever design or challenging mechanics but rather from the spam placement of minor enemies. I found myself dying 20 times or more to reach a boss, only to defeat the boss on my first try. This imbalance created a frustrating and unfun experience that felt more like a chore than a challenge.

Gameplay Mechanics:
The Estus Flasks, a crucial healing item, were rendered almost useless by their slow consumption and healing rate. Faith builds felt underpowered, and the game was riddled with glitches. While I was fortunate enough to avoid crashes, my co-op partner experienced frequent crashes on a high-end PC, further dampening our enjoyment.

DLC and Late-Game Experience:
Just when I thought I had reached a point where I could enjoy the game, the DLC pulled me back into the same frustrating cycle. Even at level 200 with a maxed-out Bell Chime weapon, I felt as if I was doing minimal damage. The sense of progression was lost, and I was left feeling like I was back at the beginning of the game.

Redeeming Qualities:
Despite these issues, there were moments when "Dark Souls II" shined. About a third of the way into the game, I finally felt powerful enough to enjoy the battles and explore the world. However, these moments were fleeting and overshadowed by the game's persistent problems.

Conclusion:
"Dark Souls II" is a game that seems to have lost its way. It sacrifices fun in a misguided pursuit of difficulty, resulting in a frustrating and often tedious experience. While there are glimpses of greatness, they are buried under poor design choices and technical issues. If you're looking for a challenging but enjoyable experience, I recommend looking elsewhere. "Dark Souls II" is a touch play, not because of its difficulty, but because of its annoying design. Stay away!

P.S. The final boss sux. From your fellow SoulsBorne normie, with love.
