it's somewhat short but really good. i figure you'll get a lot more value out of it if you play with friends, but i've done singleplayer thus far, am close to 100%, and i've had a lot of fun. definitely reccomended

They weren't kidding when they called this the most intricate simulation of a world that's ever been created. Just small enough to be comprehensible to a human mind, and just large enough to see you getting lost in it for hours and hours. It's like having a tiny virtual universe in your computer.

An absolutely WONDERFUL game that's accessible to an extremely broad audience, and sure to keep you hooked from start to finish. Hades is extremely well designed in terms of gameplay, allowing for a casual but still challenging experience that rewards your in-game progress with a vast array of mechanics working together intricately in order to keep you feeling stronger and stronger the longer you've played. I can with sincerity say that I am not quite that good at the game in terms of mere reaction, although I do consider myself fairly good at interacting with other mechanics in order to maximise my advantages. Nevertheless, Hades gives room for the player to grow in skill, knowledge, and in direct mechanical power all at once, while offering a challenge that stays compelling all the way through and a world that feels truly inhabited by its wide array of characters.

In short, this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Amazing, and you should give Supergiant all your money.

my conspiracy theory is that they added those 3 new achievements just to get all of us who had already 100%ed this piece of ♥♥♥♥ to boot it up again and see if their heroin-laced gameplay loop made us feel hollow inside enough to play it again

i have legitimate reasons to hate this game as a whole but my reasons for hating this dlc are entirely personal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. that being said, ♥♥♥♥ you nicalis

an incredible game with a tense and melancholic atmosphere and extremely engaging gameplay that will keep you hooked from start to finish. i played this to 100% completion and saw every single secret it had to offer beyond that, and not for a moment do i regret it. many other people have already disclosed why you should buy this game, so let me say that i agree with them and use this review to tell you why, even in spite of my recommendation, maybe you shouldn't:
1. it heavily involves elements of randomness. it is deliberately built around this fact; it's not like you're playing a completely skill based game and suddenly get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by luck, it's more like you're playing a luck based game and trying to maximise your advantages through skill. i personally tend to dislike games where randomness is prevalent in determining your success, but i have to say it didn't bother me quite as much here; unlike terraria or the binding of isaac, it feels like it was built around the randomness, and not like the game is constantly at odds with its random elements (note: terraria is less bad with this than tboi but this is an inscryption review so that'll have to wait)
2. its deeper secrets are *involved*. you can play this game the whole way through and see none of the secrets and still get a great experience, but if you're one of those people who needs to 100% everything, you should be prepared to pull up community guides. if you don't like that, you may not like inscryption.

finally, this doesn't have to do with the game itself, but with its soundtrack: DO NOT BUY IT ON STEAM. the steam version is missing some secret tracks which are frankly amazing and like, okay this game's soundtrack is still awesome, but spend your money on the bandcamp upload; support jonah senzel's amazing work directly and get the full version of the album by buying it there! this isn't a bandcamp ad, it's just... i was dissapointed buying the ost on steam and not seeing some secret boss themes, i'll be real.

leaving those bad things aside, though: if none of that seemed like a dealbreaker to you, BUY THIS GAME NOW. you will not regret it, i promise.

thanks for reading.

not to say it doesn't go hard as hell but you should probably buy this soundtrack on bandcamp instead of steam. it's missing a few tracks here, most notably from hidden bosses like act 3 mycologists and captain royal dominguez

still great to own the inscryption soundtrack but like, it was kind of unfortunate to buy it here and get a version of it i know to be objectively less complete than the alternative. you know, because i still spent money on it and all.

I'll be honest, when I was recommended this game by a friend I didn't pay it much mind, and when I started actually playing it I thought I'd dislike it, due to my dislike of metafiction. But I found something that really resonates with me in a very unique way.

MetaWare High School (Demo) utilises the concepts existent in its world to paint a picture of real world situations of self worth, existentialism, and mortality. I thought about this a lot, and realised that if you were to replace "What would you do if you knew you were in a fictional world?" with "What would you do if you had certainty your death was approaching?" the game's story would still be quite similar (although a bit more on the nose). It's a really interesting way of analysing this, and I like how the Nari notes actually call out other, lamer uses of metafiction and fourth wall breaking in media. This is an interesting game that leaves you with a hell of a lot to think about and I think it's kind of beautiful for that.

P.D.: Nari isn't actually a Nihilist, though. She's a fatalist. Nihilism would actually lead her to complete disregard the fact that she lives in a game world and just continue living a normal life. I can see how you'd confuse the two, though. They're often conflagrated in general media...

(P.D.'s P.D.: I know the word conflagrated doesn't mean what I think it means. It should, though.)
