While this game is not perfect, I think it is a fantastic value for the money. Dialog options can be weak at times but the main story and side stories are good! Ive seen lots of complaints about lack of seamless travel from space to planet surface, but for what this game is trying to do the travel system is perfect for me. You can land on what resources you need without having to search for them for hours. My only real complaint is lack of planet surface vehicles, since surface travel can be cumbersome at times. Overall would highly recommend!

This is the first review I've ever written, so go easy on me. But as a new Souls player myself I wanted to write about my experience for others looking into the games of the genre for the first time.

Overview

This game is truly phenomenal, and breathtaking at times. Having tried FromSoft games in the past and rage quitting at the first boss because I couldn't get past it, I was a little skeptical of purchasing this game. However the world looked beautiful and I decided to give it a try.

Immediately I was sucked into The Lands Between and its beauty. The world is massive and if you think you can go somewhere you probably can. Combat takes a bit to get used to, but doesn't take too long to become proficient, but can take hours to master. The lore is so deep it is always rewarding when you find a new snippet and can piece together a little bit more about the history of The Lands Between. Questing can be quite difficult at times trying to figure out where to go and what to find, but is very rewarding when you make it to the next step. This game is not for everyone, but it has a lot to offer.

World

Once I opened the door and saw Limgrave for the first time I was taken back at how beautiful it was. After taking in the Erdtree and Stormveil off in the distance I took off into The Lands Between to see where I could go. I was not expecting it to be as open as it was. If you think you can get somewhere, chances probably are that you can get there.

On my quest to acquire all legendary item in the game on my second play-through I explored every nook and cranny in the Lands Between. It blew me away all the places I missed, or thought were unreachable. It also took me to some of the most beautiful places and also some of the hardest, but it pays off greatly to explore.

Gameplay/Combat

Elden Ring is a lot more forgiving than other Souls Borne games due to its open world design. However, it can still pose quite a challenge if you want it to. I say this because Elden Ring is a true open world where as other FromSoft titles are more linear and require some bosses to be beaten to access the next area. There are some areas blocked by bosses in Elden Ring, however, a lot of the word can be accessed without having to engage in these fights. If you get to a boss you cannot beat you can go back into the world to find a better weapon or level up some more to get more prepared. Whereas in other Souls titles you'd just have to "git gud". But if you want a more "true" souls experience you do have the option to go straight to bosses and fight until you git gud.

While I haven't tried all weapon types and styles of combat yet, the combat feels very good. While its a little tedious to learn for new players it does not take too long to be able to at least have a chance against enemies, and theres plenty of areas with smaller bosses to get good and practiced up before going up against main bosses. There are also many different types of weapons that cater to different combat styles so there is something for everyone. Some weapons like colossal weapons are for more experienced players but there are very viable options for people new to this style of game and still make it an enjoyable experience given its difficulty at times.

Final Thoughts

Elden Ring is a beautiful game with a vast open world that highly encourages and rewards exploration. The combat feels very good and offers things to both new and veteran players. The lore is very deep and there is a ton of it if you want to look for it. Which I do highly recommend as makes a fascinating story. If you are wanting to get into Souls Borne games this is a great intro into their genre. After playing through this game several times I now want to go back and accomplish what I never could before and play through the other FromSoft games.
