This game really drives home what a game designed for VR can do. Being there, in and a part of the story, makes a tremendous amount of difference.

TL;DR: Wait and see if they fix the problems before buying.

It's pretty clear that they didn't do much polish or testing on the PC version.

* Gun/hand positioning is wonky, doesn't match hand positioning, and isn't adjustable.
* The laser pointer hand seems to get displaced off of the controller, and is often pointing randomly.
* Picking up models doesn't seem to work properly - no rotation, for example.
* Game has stutter/freezing/loading pauses a lot.
* Bullets pass through enemies if they're too close.
* Map blocks other UI elements, and can't really be manipulated.
* The teleporter doesn't always work as expected.

I'm sure there's more, but I only played the first level.

I will say that the core game is there and it has potential; if they fix these problems I'll update my review.

This is a Fallout game in name only.

The combat is good, which is a lifesaver since combat is the focus of the game. The weapon customizability is interesting and seems to be well done. Enemy/friendly AI is still pretty stupid, but they try. It also seems to be less buggy than older Bethesda games, which is nice.

Game performance is average. It's better than older games, but it still dives to the ground in certain areas (notably cities). Bethesda should have addressed this issue long before release. Graphics are somewhat dated, but they're acceptable. The textures need some work, though; higher resolutions would do wonders.

Many of the other systems are interesting concepts with poor execution, and clearly should have had more polish before going live. Base building in particular feels tacked on and meaningless.

The UI is a trainwreck, at least on PC, but this isn't unexpected for a Bethesda game. We'll have to rely on modders to design something usable. The beta patch does address a few issues, so maybe there's hope - though I wouldn't hold my breath.

The RPG aspects have been "streamlined" into nonexistence. Dialogue is superficial and linear, though they tried to hide the fact by using the shortened dialogue descriptions.

All in all, it's a decent sandbox for gunplay and exploration. There's a bit of FarCry in it, and a bit of Borderlands. It uses the Fallout universe as a theme, but it's decorative only. There's very little of the soul of Fallout left.

I can't recommend it at this time. It does a lot of things, but none of them particularly well. The game has no depth or nuance, and suffers the blandness of the AAA game that tries and fails to please everyone.
