I've had a love/hate relationship with this game until for the first 70-ish hours. It's got a very steep learning curve, and honestly, you can treat is as two different games before and after you learn it "for real".

Before you learn it, it's a regular old rougelite. You spawn in, you tackle the "challenge", you die, you repeat. Not much of unlocks, but the real unlock is the friends you've made along the way the knowledge of it's wand building mechanics and layout of the areas. Along the way you may think that you figured it out, that you know how to play this game. Except you don't.

Then you learn the hard truths:
1. The game is a living world that doesn't much care if you want to have fun
2. Everything and anything can be used for your advantage.

With that, I believe this is the first "true sandbox" I've played. You learn how the world works and you use what it throws at you to defeat it.

Here's one fun puzzle you may encounter: digging through tough terrain with no digging spells. How would you do that? Well, you can quite easily find a spell that turns things into piss, put it on a remote cast, and dig with that! If you don't mind swimming in piss.

10/10 would accidentally turn myself into piss again.

This game proves you don't need cheap jumpscares and poorly drawn twisted faces to have a geniunely good horror.
It creates a realistic unsettling atmosphere in a pixelated artstyle without relying on the aforementioned gimmicks.
Gameplay is good. Solid platforming, well designed difficulty curve. I was expecting metroidvania esque upgrades, but instead it's the enemies that get upgraded as you progress - fine too.
Difficulty is high, but no complaints about that. It's hard but fair, and there is an assist mode for those who can't handle hardcore games but still want to experience the game.
Graphics are also good. Minimalist at first glance, as you descend into the hive you'll notice a lot of attention to detail in the backgrounds.

Second favorite game this year. Definitely recommending.

This game is an encyclopedia about how to ruin a masterpiece.
Could have been great if wasn't so bad, does that even make any sense?

Beautiful graphics, glorious soundtrack that's like music to my ears. Surprised the OST is not on sale actually. For it's price, it's probably one of the best games of the genre.

The gameplay is what you'd expect from a good danmaku game. Patterns are well balanced and dodging them is enjoyable. I also like the way the bullets are drawn on screen, and that bullet designs actually mean stuff. I can recommend this game for people who are new to the genre.

One thing I didn't like though is the ship progression system - it's either I'm doing something wrong or it's just there for the sake of being there.

A game I would recommend to literally anyone. The gameplay is solid, level generation is outstanding. There aren't many levels and you don't unlock more during repeat playthroughs, however the ones that are there are unique and offer different playstyles, each level goes on for just long enough not to get bored of it. As for the playstyles, they range from your average platformer to race against time to having to use enemies as your only ground.

This game does require skill. The controls are just 3 buttons - run left, run right, jump and shoot are same button, you can only shoot downwards and only in midair, doing so will propel you upwards a little for extra air control. Using these few options for their full extent requires some practice, don't expect to beat this game quickly.

The roguelike aspect of the game is not affecting the gameplay as much some other games of the genre. There are 20 upgrades for 10 levels while some games have hundreds of items for 5 levels, and the levels while randomly generated are always linear.

On topic of upgrades, there are also multiple weapon types (modules) that while working differently have about the same firepower, therefore which weapon is better is to the player's choice. It's still beneficial to pick up weapons when you find them because they can grant extra health and extend gunboot battery depending on module appearance.

Now for an important topic - replay value. This is not a game to play the hell out of non-stop. Instead, it's better to return to the game every once a while to truly appreciate it. As I previously stated, there are no extra levels on repeat playthroughs (which is kind of saddening), but there is a hard mode.

In conclusion, I'd rate this game 9/10. It would be fantastic if this game ever recieved extra content such as new levels, or heck I'd love to see a more traditional left to right platformer or even a metroidvania based on this.

Disappointing in terms of singleplayer campaign, controls take a little while to get used to.

The campaign feels like it's creator had little experience with the game, kind of like it was made by a first-timer who had just discovered the level editor and decided he was obligated to make a full multi-level campaign.

As with the controls... they aren't exactly bad or anything. The character controls great. Just, you have to spend a _lot_ of time getting used to them so you can use at least half of their full potential. It's one of those games where you spend more time learning to play the thing than actually playing
