If you enjoyed Battle Chasers, you will enjoy this one. A carbon copy of a formula that worked 5 years ago, with a welcomed sprinkle of evolutions.

Lane system is an amazing find. World navigation is now more immersive instead of detached road walking of BC.

Unfortunately Airship Syndicate has not solved the glaring problems during the last 5 years. The game is made my artists with all the drawbacks. The game designers who could have devised complex damage formulas stopped halfway choosing fixed damage numbers from every monster. The UI artist has drawn a very admirable interface but never spent time on its usability. Game is developed for consoles first with PC control schema being an afterthought.

Visual presentation: 10/10 - Best art in the biz
Gameplay: 7/10 - Same ol with a dash of fresh
Tech: 6/10 - Infrequent crashes with progress rollback

Story: 7/10 - Full companion list is revealed 60% into the game which is a bit late. New companions are forced into your party, which is a very inorganic solution.
Pacing: 6/10 - Largely linear pace with glimpses of greatness, but moments of true wonder a rarely achieved.
Lore & Dialogues: 7/10 - Great main cast story dialogues, camp banter comes straight out of a spreadsheet "required list" and the world doesnt tell a story.
Exploration - 6/10 - A few memorable detachments, but could have been so much more
Audio: 9/10 - Amazing ambiance and immersion.
VFX: 10/10 - Best in the biz
UI: 7/10 - All the elements are there, sometimes two times over.
UX: 3/10 - Console first problems plague the usability. No hovers, no clarity of whats equiped, menus buried within layers of menus.
Animation: 9/10 - Best in the biz
Illustrations: 8/10 - A bit lowres compression here and there, underused key arts, lovely comic style intermissions.

On hardest difficulty, ghosting this one becomes a real challenge stealth junkies have been waiting for years. Compared to the recent Thief game, which was a walk in the park, Styx, is a true stealth experience. As with all beginnings of a new franchise, we will probably see the proper execution on a grander scale in its second installment.

Amazingly balanced. Ubisoft and their crap of an excuse of Might and Magic can sit and cry in the corner. Grimrock series begin to shine among Might and Magic and Wizardry series. Eagerly waiting for more!
