Splitgate wears its inspirations from more classic shooters like Halo and Quake on its sleeve, however it brings a refreshing sense of modernity to the arena shooter genre that has sadly been neglected and left to the wayside. The implementation of portals sets this game apart and makes it a clear contender in the scene.

Being free to play, and not infested with gameplay affecting microtransactions, I would highly recommend anyone to give this game a go and fall in love with its movement, gunplay and speed. My only complaint is due to the cosmetic nature of the microtransactions, there is no cohesive art style and it feels a little jarring. Some maps feel too visually "messy" and some of the modes don't particularly make good use of the portalling mechanic. Overall, this game is a diamond in the rough, and I'm glad to see the developers being rewarded for their hardwork and patience.
