Early Access Review
Nuclear Throne is one of those games that will make you grit your teeth in frustration and mutter a small 'Fine. One more run then I'll stop playing.' and then you'll glance at the time on your computer and realize that it's 1 AM and a cat just pooped on your bed. Needless to say, Nuclear Throne is /amazing./ The soundtrack is great, always fitting with the situation you find yourself in, from the upbeat cool jams of the Crystal Caves to the awe inspiring music when you're at the Throne itself. Don't like playing as one character? Cool! Nuclear Throne's got you covered! You can pick from a variety of different characters right from the start, including a small throwback to Vlambeer's other games, Gun Godz, with the character Y.V. ( Yung Venuz ), Fish, Chicken, and others! Each character has their own special passive ability, as well as a unique active ability. Melting, for example, as a passive ability, makes everything drop 1.5 times more rads ( Exp. ) than they normally would. His active ability is that he can make the corpses on the ground explode, dealing damage to enemies near the blast and destroying projectiles. Sweet, right? But the drawback is that Melting starts with only 2 HP, making him the weakest character that can be 1 shotted by most enemies. Nuclear Throne has a /buttload/ of replayability, and by far, is probably one of my favourite roguelikes thus far! Keep it up, Vlambeer!
