As much as i love the person which gifted this for me, the devs and the game series itself, its hard, HARD to recommend this one, why? Well, lets go:
THE BAD
First, lets address the elephant in the room: The price. The previous Nighdive reviews and games have been priced at half of what Turok 3's currently going for, especially on the id Side, they also had lots of content more, and a somewhat (bigger) level of polish. Sure, it has new textures and whatnot, but modding is much more limited than the other titles, the sounds are half-refined, half-compressed and the levels are pretty much the same, infact, 5 chapters. Taking an experienced player no more than 2 hours or 3 to complete atleast a gameplay with a single character. (To those who never played, you have 2 options, with a few extras down the way). However, i felt like the textures are a bit too noisy and sharpened, and might not be attractive for the players.

Now, the next one is technical issues: This release has been a bit more turbulent than others, i personally had an issue with input lag in the game by default, things that didn't happen with T1, 2, or other Nightdive releases. The culprit? VSync. And it comes enabled by default, mix that with lots of other smoothing options, and you need to do quite some detective work. Now, i understand that this is to reduce input lag and make gameplay more fluid, but by default , it IS causing Input Lag and making controlling the characters just as hard as it was on the n64. Minor thing but, noticeable.

Second one is on the saves: Saves here are inconsistent. Sometimes, it may save you with an X amount of health, and the next time you load, it will respawn you with a lesser amount of health you had BEFORE your death. So, sometimes you might respawn with 100 health, sometimes, with 6. This also affects weapon ammocounts sometimes. Enemies might also appear on weird places or even be killed off-screen after a game crash or something similar, which is really, really weird. Note that old version saves (atleast during the Switch gameplay i tested) won't be compatible with newer ones, so don't even try saving for a next ver. Play it now, and make sure you re-play it when patched. A bit of a bummer but, understandable.

This last one might not affect me but others may not be so kind to it: It lacks multiplayer. Always a bit of a niche but some people seem to be very fond of it. It ain't here. Maps are included (some of them) but there is NO NETCODE or anything to make it work. To make matters even rougher, they seem to be taking a break so don't count on "Rage Wars" being out there too soon. If you are looking for the multiplayer, go elsewhere or wait for someone to mod the previous games for that, the way it stands, so far, this one doesn't have a multiplayer mode.

THE GOOD
This is the first time Turok 3 is released outside the n64, and for all modern platforms. As expected from Nightdive, it has all the bells and whistles the other ports has: Enhanced visuals (with an option to run with old textures with a shortcut option "-useOldTextures", unlimited framerates, high resolutions and even a liiiitle bit of restored content.

With that said, for those which never played because they didn't own a N64 or couldn't bear with the low framerates, those problems are now GONE. The controller support was also heavily improved from the original one, and analogs, looking and moving feels much better.

With the fog reduced, visibility and navigation is now easier aswell. You have more ways of telling where you are and aren't going, and whether or not you can or cannot find a secret. Which is good since on the N64, either you knew those beforehand, or you would struggle a bit.

Additional goods are also there, like an extra fourth character by beating the game on the hardest difficulty, achievements and, albeit limited, a bit of modding support, however, that last one may take some time for people to figure and document. But its still good to have here. The tools for editing are also easily accessible and there so, it won't be too long before people start doing extra Turok 3 content.

VEREDICT

For me, its better to wait for a sale. Yes, it is a nice game, yes, it is the first time it has been released OUTSIDE the platform it was originally released, but it has a few technical issues and the price is way too high for a game that lasts much less than the previous titles in the franchise. I would recommend it if the price was localized to my region or if it was a bit cheaper, but paying almost a double-A price for a game which might only last 6 hours to get everything? Is a bit too much.

Blizzard screwed up many of the fans. I remember paying for it back at the time and stuff only got worst as the time passed. They completely nerfed anything that was fun to play in favor of "balance" for the same 5 or 6 support characters. Nowadays, they hide behind fake promises and "representativity" for minorities as a disguise for their scandals and frankly anti-human acts.

This game deserves its review bombing and negative replies. Blizzard as a whole deserves this. Its time they start treating their customers right. You deserve more. We deserve more.

Its QUAKE 2, but now its back!
Full of new content (E3 models and maps to play around with, Quake 2 64, new/refined models, better lighting engine, more fast-paced gameplay, a official re-thought Nightmare mode and new/restored enemy attacks), this is sure to test even the more seasoned Quake 2 veterans, along with Cross-Platform and other stuff, this is the de-facto way to experience or re-experience one of the best genre-defining FPSes of the 90's.

If 2005 had a Forza Horizon, this would be it.
Lots of cars (mostly European but hey! It was made originally with a VW and sub-manufacturers sponsorship), big environments and pretty graphics for 2005 makes this game a nice treat for people looking for a good time without too many requirements.

It aged quite well, and now, with WS support and the sorts, its even easier to mod than before. So fill it with Cars and Tracks to your hearts content, and have a good time!

Its an experience of its own. It is, and isn't, Half-Life styled for a number of reasons, and its all good ones.

Trust me, its worth the trip, if i get into too much detail, i will ruin it for you.

EDIT:Not recommended but, i will modify it a bit to rectfiy post-release performance that the community kinda "worked-around"
Its technically worse than Serious Sam 4. I managed to make it run acceptably (read: 60 with drops to 40) by changing a few settings (Terrain and Distance quality to Medium / Default and Pre-Baked lighting enabled instead of dynamic), but its not ideal, and far far FAR from acceptable for a game like it.
As for the game itself: Its more Sam. Its fun, the campaign is open-ended, but has far more sense of direction than the old SS4, the new tools and weapons are cool, the secrets are nice, and the new additions are very welcome.

If you are willing to risk the performance issues to play it, sure, its a recommend. But if you want a polished experience for the buck. Wait for patches, if they ever happen.

Its lighthearted, its fun, and its intense.
When you are competing for positions, it really makes battling for positions in Simcades look pale in comparison, when you see others compete for a podium far-away, it turns comical due to the scale of the landscape, being the fact you are driving 1:64 cars, making it still extremely funny.

I would recommend it more if i had alt profiles, but i don't. Whether you are a collector, a racer, or a kid looking for some fun, the game has it all for you! No matter the age.

Its Quake, it has been recently improved, you already know it.
Yes, i have it tattooed, so of course i recommend it.
It requires not much playtime, as i've played it much more than even i myself can count over the years.
Go get it, why are you reading this? Did you get it yet? Now maybe? Do it.
