I started this game thinking, “Wow, this is a cool and stylish RPG.” 30 minutes later, I was standing in the middle of a jaw-dropping dreamscape wondering if I should be taking notes or applying to art school.

The world design? Absolutely crazy... in a good way. Every corner feels handcrafted by someone who said, “What if we made reality look like it was painted at 3 am during an emotional breakdown... but also, make it beautiful.” And they sure did.

Combat hits that sweet spot between cinematic flair and actual challenge. You don’t just mash buttons... you perform. You’ll die a few times, sure (especially in expert difficulty), but you’ll look cool doing it, and that’s what really matters. People are calling this the turn based Dark Souls, and I agree. Some of the fights are extremely hard on expert difficulty where you basically get one shotted, until you retry it a few times and learn the timings on when to dodge or parry. Once you master the fight, it feels so damn rewarding!

Exploration? Beautiful and jaw-dropping.
Soundtrack? Mesmerizing.
UI? Smooth.
My only complaint is that I can’t physically live in this game world.

Final Verdict: This game is a masterpiece and definitely my Game of the year. Actually, I think this game just made it to my top 3 favorite games of all time, its that good!
10/10 Would let this game emotionally uppercut me again.

EDIT: I'm definitely going back to 100% this game. I don't usually hunt achievements, but I love this games world so much, I don't want to leave it. Will update my review once I get all the achievements!

EDIT 2: I finally 100% the game! Was it worth it? Hell yeah! There's so many beautiful places to explore and the end game bosses are super cool! Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a treat. I enjoyed this emotional journey and wish I can experience it for the first time again. I will definitely come back sometime in the near future to play New Game+ so I can enjoy this masterpiece again.

EDIT 3: Expedition 33 broke records at the 2025 game awards! They also shadow dropped free DLC during their GOTY speech which was amazing. The new area is awesome! The end game bosses are crazy hard especially on expert mode. The DLC gave me about another 12+ hours of content only because it took me so long to get through some of these end game bosses. Amazing masterpiece of a game overall. Don't miss out and buy it while it's on sale during the Steam Winter sale, you won't be disappointed!
