A trilogy of humorous point and click adventures, featuring Deponia, Chaos on Deponia and Goodbye Deponia.

The Deponia series takes place on the eponymous planet, which consists mostly of junk, scrap and garbage and follows Rufus, an egocentric and not too capable inhabitant, on his quest to leave the planet and reach Elysium, an elusive city floating in the clouds. The games feature a large cast of creative characters as well as a variety of diverse locations, which keeps things fresh and interesting throughout.

The games’ story is certainly interesting and will keep you playing, delivering twists and turns as well as a good amount of character development, but where the series really shines is with its humour. Dialogue is witty and Rufus has something to say about just about everything, with jokes often featuring dark comedy and setting the protagonist up to somehow be both likeable and a massive jerk.

You’ll find the games to be classic point and click adventures, having you talk to characters, explore locations to find objects and somehow combine everything to solve light puzzles in order to progress. The Puzzles are well-explained and logical enough to be beatable by just about anyone. Should you ever get stuck, there’s a highlighting feature to mark all interactable spots and the option to skip any minigame.

The drawn assets and cutscenes look great and are complemented by great voice acting (I used the original German dub.) and a fitting, memorable soundtrack. Throughout the games Deponia feels like an actual place, with many unique locations and characters giving it a lived-in atmosphere.

This collection also has some unique features not found in the individual games. You’ll have access to a world map showing your progress, a quest log for even more guidance through your tasks and a developer commentary, offering insight and original songs for every single screen in the game. The first game also contains new collectibles strewn throughout it, like the sequels already offered.

This is one of my favourite game series and I very much recommend getting it. You’ll have a bunch of fun.

Feel free to take a look at my reviews for the individual games for a bit more insight on them.
