It was fine till they removed Linux support.

[Insert Yaoi Joke here]

Jokes aside, the controls are a bit different and I think there's a bug or 2 but the experience is still fun and I haven't even gotten to the new Shadow content yet as of writing this

A late friend of mine loved this game. I can see why he put so much time in it

I've been a fan of this series for a long time. One of my first actual video games was the first Lego Star Wars, which my brother and me sunk many hours into it and it's sequel. If you like Legos or Star Wars, this is a necessary title to have in your collection.

A lot of fond memories with a late friend of mine who enjoyed this game back when he only had a family Windows Vista machine to play competitive with. I'm not nearly as skilled as he was but I'll still charge into battle with my P-90 anyways.

It needs fixes before you should buy this. It's really a disappointment that this released so soon.

People already mentioned the multiplayer servers and I don't know if that's been improved since I first wrote this soon after launch so I'm not gonna talk about them. My experience with the game is mainly single player so I only really be talking about that. I'll list 2 for starters and any more with edits if I see them.

* When aiming, if a teammate comes anywhere near your cross-hairs (seemed like near the edge of the screen) when zoomed in, it'll light as if you have a teammate targeted. I saw a lot of green as I was sniping Stormtroopers with the Rebel Marksmen.

*The music has moments of just cutting out entirely. In Battlefront I, when I pulled up an options menu and the music stopped and never resumed till another song loaded in when I selected a map to play single player

* Having put more time into the game, I've found there's an animation error which doesn't play when you get up, so you just stay stuck in place unable to move instead of look like you're trying to stand back up. This seems to exist in different ways between Battlefront 1 and 2 as I've been noticing some bugs with other stuff. Another example is when Super Battle Droids die. in BF2. They use the regular battle droid animation, model and all.

* I've had a random static sound play for a fraction of a second which didn't make sense. I'm pretty sure it happened both on Windows and Linux (both SteamOS and Debian 12.5) so it's not a Proton or OS issue.

* This might have happened in the originals and I forgot but I occasionally found command posts in Rise of the Empire which didn't have a beam of any color despite being active.

* I didn't mention this when installing but the game is about 60GB which is kinda odd even if there's improved textures. The games could fit on 4.7GB discs for PS2 and Xbox and I'm pretty sure they took up far less than that. Can an improved lighting engine take up so much space?

* When playing on PC, when windowed mode is off, the cursor appears to not be captured and will roll off the game during battle and onto an adjacent screen while playing. This makes it very difficult to do things like turn left as you'll find you'll find your next click minimizing the window. I think I got it fixed by having it set to on and keeping the resolution to the native resolution but it doesn't work very well under that.

* At least when using a controller, in Galactic Conquest, it takes about 2-7 presses of the A button before it'll ask if I want to overwrite a save. This problem does not happen if I make a new save. I have once gone a few over 7 but usually it takes about 2-3.

* The render distance feels a lot shorter than other versions of this game. This could be memory but I've had to get a lot closer than I would expect to just to see things I need to target. Most recent example was a space battle of Empire vs Rebellion. As the Empire, I couldn't see their Frigate till I was past the half-way point of the Rebellion cruiser. I've had similar circumstances in regular combat too but this was the worst of it.

Credit where it's due, the edition of DLC maps I never even got was really cool. I'm also glad there's a colorblind option even if I don't need it. And most important for me: I'm glad they preserved the splitscreen multiplayer mode from the game and put it in the PC version. I have a lot of memories of playing these games with my brother so it's disappointing that the only PC version I can do it in is also currently inferior.

I'm sure Aspyr will fix things eventually, but they could have either fixed it beforehand or even delayed the game to do it. The more hours I put into this thing, the more problems I see and it's ridiculous. A delayed game is eventually a good game, after all. Until it's fixed, I'd recommend the original versions.

The card list (both available and forbidden) isn't a perfect 1:1 with the TCG but it's still a fun experience. Be careful of your resources and play the solo mode and you should be able to minimize if not entirely not worry about microtransactions. I however wasn't but I'm still having a good time
