I have very much been enjoying this game, the early game is easy, but the late game stuff can get decently challenging. For my first blind playthrough to reach 100%, it took about 12 hours, but that being said, this game is made for speed, and if I try, it's possible for me to beat it in under half an hour.

Something I would *love* to see is a New Game+ of some sort, some way I can start the game with all the perks unlocked already so I can try playing the whole game with One Hit Kill on or something akin to that. I also kind of wish that the enemies stood out a bit better, having the guys in yellow suits running around on yellow grass while I'm traveling at 200 kmh while in the stratosphere makes them pretty hard to see.

I ran into a few bugs, mostly just speed related stuff where if I go too fast I clip into walls and ceilings, but there's this one strange one that I can't actually tell if it's a bug or not, but if you have no guns equipped, you can't use any of your special equipment like grenades. I think it has something to do with the hands not being rendered unless they're holding a gun or the pickaxe. Makes it very interesting trying to do a No Guns playthrough.

I have not tried co-op yet, but that looks reasonably fun too, and as soon as I have friends, I'll be sure to give it a shot, especially with the PvP perk. Overall though, I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a solid movement shooter with some interesting quirks.

Grim Dawn has not only ruined other ARPGs for me, but it has also managed to ruin almost all other video games entirely for me. The build depth, the leveling options, the class combinations, the enemy variety, the loot system, even the grind, all perfect as far as I'm concerned. Any game I play these days is marred by the fact that I can't pick up a "Healing shield of Health".

Elden Ring, my GOTY from last year, is a lesser game because I can't farm Radan for 12 hours trying to get the perfect prefix for his unique Dual Swords weapon.

I can't base an entire build in Legend of Zelda around a pair of pants that let's me throw poop, and then killing a full 4 player final boss by myself because poison is fair.

Most of my time in Minecraft is trying to mod it to be just like Grim Dawn rather than actually placing blocks.

I can't say GD is my favorite game, the story is okay, the music is fine, the art is stylistic, but what I think GD does better than any other game I've played is the Mechanics. The creativity, the options available, and the simplicity with which you can interact with these things gives the player *so much* to work with.

If you have a craving for an ARPG, and nothing else on the market has been able to scratch that itch (not that there's really anything worth playing in the ARPG genre at the moment), I can't recommend GD enough. I refunded Diablo 3 multiple times because no matter how they updated it, it was still unfun. I refuse to play Diablo 4 because it's just Diablo 3: 2. Grim Dawn is the last great ARPG, and in my opinion, the best to do it.

I picked this game up thinking it'd be another "homage" to classic shooters, which has usually been code for being lazy and unskilled in game development and opt for ripping of the classics that don't take much effort to mimic. This, however, is on an entirely different level.

To say this game feels like Doom or Quake would be wrong, but saying that it feels like how you *remember* Doom or Quake feeling is absolutely fitting. Classic Doom and Quake are clunky by todays standards, but our memories completely filter that out, and you don't really realize it wasn't as smooth or polished as you remember. That golden version of the game of my childhood has been captured here in Dusk. It's almost like having a twisted fever dream while playing, everything seems so familiar, but entirely new. Every good gaming memory without any of the growing pains the originals had to go through.

The entire game is polished exactly as much as it needs to be to convey it's intent and message. The sound design is outstanding (personally I'd prefer the shotguns were a tad beefier sounding, but that's nitpicking), the OST is great, the art style does an amazing job at replicating classics while also making everything look crisp and nice to look at. The theme and style are well done, sort of a Painkiller meets Silent Hill vibe. The secrets are well hidden, but not frustrating to find due to the well designed maps.

There are some bugs that I ran into while playing, mostly with the flip mechanic making me face a direction I wasn't planning on, but there was one instance where I jumped off a wall, and then started climbing thin air. Nothing game breaking, but worthy of note at least.

Last thing I want to mention is the story, it follows the same sort of story telling you'd get out of Doom 2, with very little narrative to begin with, usually just the end of chapter card to read and the general map design to show you what's happening and where you are. Near the end the storytelling shifts to a more modern style, a voice speaking to you, some descriptions of things in the environment, enough to let you think about what exactly is going on rather than being told, which I enjoy.

I actually just finished it halfway through January 2019, but I can still say this is my favorite FPS game that was released in 2018, an easy 10/10. (Here's hoping we see a Dusk 2)

EDIT: Turns out there is a lock-on system, and I just didn't know it, I just thought that button was used to center your camera. Honestly that just make the game even better, though I do recommend dropping a bit of a better tip about the lock-on in the tutorial.

--old but still viable review below--

Fun rougelike/rouglite that has a ton of pluses, with in my opinion only one or two minuses. To start with, great controls, very responsive and simple to learn and remember. The game is fairly well optimized, though I hit a couple of jitters when there was a lot on screen at times. The difficulty is certainly there, though it's not harsh enough to turn someone off from playing.

Now my biggest issue with this game while playing with a controller is the camera. It's usually fine, and adjusts well, I found that using a regular Xbox controller worked better than my Steam controller in this department. However, the camera likes to get stuck in walls when fighting too close to them, and honestly I feel that this game would do well to have some sort of lock-on system, especially for the guns.

These aren't deal breakers though, and honestly once you get used to the camera, it becomes barely noticeable.

Overall, a solid game with some cute graphics and a nice soundtrack. an easy 8.5-9/10

A very simple, yet at the same time socially complex game that tests not only your own judgment, but the judgment of you by complete strangers. I feel the idea could be expanded on infinitely, though for a short 5 minute game, it was pulled off rather well.

The sound design is done well, and the pixel art, while nothing to write home about, is fitting.

Highly recommended for those of you who are interested in stories that allow for a lot of interpretation.

This is a spoiler free main campaign review, I haven't played with the challenges or endless mode yet.

I've been waiting for this game ever since I played the demo over a year ago, and when I saw it on the front page of Steam, I knew I had to get it. The gameplay is very simple, and plays out more like a puzzle game than a shooter, though there is plenty of shooting. What I truely love about this game is the fact that each level can be done in a multitude of ways, allowing player freedom in terms of what they want to do.

My only qualm with this game though is that the main campaign, while interesting and inventive, is pretty short. In my case, only around an hour and a half to complete (I assume I completed it, though there's always that chance that maybe they only want me to think that I finished it). Like I said, this doesn't count the extra modes, which I'm sure will add more than a couple more hours to my play time, I just wish the main story had some more meat to it.

In short, really fun and creative game, solid gameplay and an interesting story only really held back by it's short runtime. (the pretty high price tag doesn't help much either)

Here's hoping for a SuperHot 2.

Fun, hookshotted places and hid in corners. Infection is probably the most fun to play. Would like to see some dedicated servers, and maybe some type of mod support or modding tools, I'd like to see what the community could do with this game (like custom gamemodes, new weapons, or even new vehicles that aren't COMPLETELY OVERPOWERED AND TOTALLY FAIR). Great fun with friends.
