First impressions of this game (at 10hrs) are just really really good. I have my reservations about Konami but this isn't about them right now. Team Bloober has done an amazing job meeting the expectations of a very demanding fandom, as well as doing a good enough job to introduce a new set of fans to a beloved story.

So far everything has been detailed to a near perfect finish. The game itself has some tiny polishing but I have not had any major graphic errors. It is a tad bit demanding of memory and I have had moments of FPS stuttering but it's mostly alleviated by reducing the stress on the amount of memory I'm using. Please keep that in mind as well as religiously empty your shadow cache, it makes a difference.

The amount of options at your fingertips to customize your experience is actually something other games need to consider. From the tiniest thing like button prompts to the biggest thing like the HUD can be changed in order to have a clean experience or one that's better suited to your tastes if you enjoy having so many on screen prompts.

The atmosphere, the story telling it's all so so wonderful and I appreciate Team Bloober for adding easter eggs for long time vets as well as people that are just plain ol' curious like me and I like to go everywhere on the map. It legit pays off to be curious in this game. So far there has not been any moment that I feel like it's been padded out with pointless moments and every thing I do feels like it advances the story at a good pace. Thank you thank you thank you for making certain spots on the map a bit shorter to reach and makes me not regret travelling to corners of the town just to have to waste time walking back and forth.

I think this game killed backtracking for the best and I'm absolutely in love with how they've made traversing through sections so much easier if you just spend a little bit more time adventuring. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this game will end but I can already see myself having multiple playthroughs even after I 100% this game, which at this point it's inevitable- I'm in love.

Before starting this review I'd like to state that I don't want to take either 0 or the Kiwami versions into consideration. Since, to be fair and straight off the bat absolutely ruin your expectation of Y3 from the very beginning. I'm taking this game into the same consideration of what a remaster would have been at the time. Meaning Y3 PS2 to Y3R PS3.

The story/main campaign alone does not do the "Like A Dragon" storyline any favors, it does however flesh out our main character as a multi dimensional protagonist. Ex-con, father, protector etc etc. If the game itself was simply just that? It'd be perfect since every single other aspect of the gameplay that holds it back would just be a minor oversight. You can call Y3 the "beach episode" of the series since you don't have to play it but it does give some context to our main character and toss them into a story that serves no real purpose to the series, besides making it just so much more complicated than it needs to be.

The orphanage portions are the highlights of the game, making every visit charming and memorable, but being shoehorned into a slow and otherwise boring campaign- you wind up feeling like a forced and obligated parent.

Combat in this game is... not good. You are more than capable of beating any enemy or boss- it just takes an absurd amount of time. There are no real moments where you feel like you interact with your enemies besides the rare Heat moments which deplete while not attacking, after having been attacked and pretty much just breathing. Weapons are a bit overtuned and under modified making them useful when used correctly and useless because they break so quickly.

Nearing the end of the game, the each mission stops pointing you in the direction you need to go- forcing you to run around or just look up online what to do next. Hitting the pause menu opens up a general hint about what to do next but at times it comes off vague and unhelpful. Like find "So and so" and there's literally no clue as to where they are, you spent minutes if not hours just trying to figure out tiny things that advance the story about two and half steps before you're stuck doing another chore filled side mission? Or just a mission inbetween your usual Campaign progression?

Anyways, if you want the achievements- if you want the full experience; buy it. But if you're just interested in seeing what happens. Just watch a video on the story you'll pretty much get the basics of what's going on and you can move on with your life and Kiryu's.

A charming little coin pusher with rogue-like elements sprinkled on top. I so so wish there were endless dungeons in order to take full advantage of the new monster parts you receive near the end of the game. Clearing the maps unfortunately leaves you with little to do after you finish the game. Pushing coins is all you got left during endgame.

Earning cosmetics is a small but slightly uninspired addition to the game, you could very well not spend any of your gems in order to get closer to the 100 gem achievement and simply focus on the necessary upgrades needed to finish in the first place.

If the 5K coin and 100 Gem achievement could be changed to more progression ones, I feel like it’d be a bit more appealing to even try. The current endgame achievements feel a bit too grindy. Maybe achievements for unlocking all cosmetics and all collectibles would feel a bit better and would introduce excitement towards getting gold chests. But just sitting there watching the counter for coins and gems to go up with nothing to show for it hurts the experience.

The upgrade system is confusing. I’m not entirely sure what’s being upgraded or if it’s just making my character faster. I’m to assume every level you upgrade, you toss one extra coin every 60 seconds. Which took me about an hour into gameplay to realize. Whatever time is currently on my profile is the time it took me to beat the game, I may not return until it’s updated.

Other than that, there’s nothing I would change. It’s still very cute either way and completely worth the money. I’d just like something more to do even if it’s repeating. But have something to work towards that doesn’t feel one sided.

I’d easily recommend this based on the fact that it’s fun and charming, I can tell that there were very good ideas that just need to grow a bit more to make this game an absolute staple for a good time killer.

(This is a review that is part of the overall Master Collection Experience, please take my other reviews for the remaining MGS games with the same consideration)

Konami has continued to show little to no care for this series and it starts with this PS1 classic. A ton of the assets as well as polygon models show up fractured and at times broken, allowing you to see almost right through them. You DO NOT have these issues with this game playing on it's original hardware. Why it winds up looking worse on PC is beyond me. There was absolutely nothing done to both upscale and sharped this game to make it seem like it was optimized for our computers and not just slapped together with spit and glue.

MGS has momentary hiccups as well as loading times???? I'm not sure why the game hangs during loading features and the transition from Disc 1 to Disc 2 has this cutscene where the discs are being swapped. I'm not sure if it's Konami trying to be cute, but it's not necessary, it breaks the immersion and will more than likely cause the game to be useless for speedruns.

Thankfully this game is not fully censored, even though the Johnny scene has underwear, anything else that the game originally had as well as all the original lines are intact. The game doesn't break due to prolonged game time but saving is broken, or saving is something that wasn't explicitly explained prior to starting the game. There are people that are losing their save files because of missed steps or because the game implemented saving poorly.

This is an old game, Konami. You need to either bring instructions or leave manual saving in the cutting room floor because this is something that did not need to translate over to modern day gaming.

I can't really defend this, and a modded version of the GOG version for this not only runs better but looks better, as well as it takes full advantage of every corner of your screen. I can't recommend this in the state it is in, and I'm actually quite upset I even bothered with Konami... again. (Review will continue in MGS2)

I paid full price Day 1, and I have to now kiss this game goodbye as soon as January rolls along. That's absolutely crazy. If that's the lifespan of a 2K game (not even more than a year old), then I rather never buy another 2K game again. I was super close to buying 2K23 to just keep it around while I still played 22, but I'm not doing that- at all.

Game breaking bugs. Connection drops. Simple things like typing in chat or even trying to transition between games causes the entire program to break. These problems existed in the beta and persisted onto live release. There's tons of players that are suffering from AFK punishments for games they did not leave voluntarily. I was really hoping for this game to be polished on release but it's continuing the unfortunate curse of bad Gundam games.

Another season another series of crashes. "Tired of this game" doesn't even scratch the surface.

1 year of on and off playing 20hrs of playtime later and I've 100% this game just to say I have and will probably never install it again. Luckily I didn't run into any bugs, the game itself has a very persistent and difficult A.I. but nothing impossible. Visage is just hard for people with very rare phobias. This game packed all my top phobias and wrapped it into one beautifully crafted game. I've recommended this title to several people and they've all really enjoyed it and hated me for recommending it. My chest feels heavy and I'm high off this rush of anxiety, it's just simply incredibly how a game could make me feel this way again. So many years since I was able to feel genuine fear from anything.

I love this game, from the sounds to the atmosphere. The art and the depth and detail of every single room was just overwhelmingly haunting. I wouldn't mind playing through something similar like this. Just not this game again, it's... it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrifying. Thank you for this experience, I will probably never forget it.

The stories kinda suck though, not gonna lie. Most of the chapters didn't feel cohesive to the main plot and I guess I can just cut and paste certain findings to theorize something along the lines of a sensible ending. Voice acting was top notch, it really saved the narrative of this game.

Cannot play the game.
Currently crashes on the first few major cutscenes. Changing your settings seems to help sometimes but not others. The cutscene doesn't load up but you can still pause the game but can't skip the cutscene. You'd have to quit the game and start over. I can't seem to find a way past the second major cutscene but the first one you can get to play if you have it set to 1280 and have AA and Depth off. Good luck everyone!
