First and foremost, I've never played any of the previous Persona games, and only bought this one simply because 1) It's on PC and 2) People are head over heels in love with these games. So seeing yet another positive review probably doesn't surprise anyone but most of them are just "yay game good get it" and don't tell you ANYTHING about the damn game. Let's get my gripes out of the way first, since they're not game killers.

1) A game that's ported to PC that doesn't have PC reflected controls is a terrible time. Tutorials for game controls are given in a form like: "Fast travel around town with the sub menu button!" BUT DON'T TELL YOU WHAT THAT IS! Even the name entry in the beginning is an exercise in frustration. Luckily you can just click through most stuff in the game, and often on screen prompts help you out, but seriously, just tell me that the sub menu button for fast travel is F. It's not tough to detect my input device is a keyboard, since that's the one absolute default every PC gamer would have access to. If I plugged in a controller it'd make sense since you have options for those!

2) This game is a jrpg. One that can get a little rough. But why is it that when you die it's immediate game over? I HATE THIS. I have revival items and 3 other party members, if I can revive them why can't they revive me? It just means I have to hoard any and all armor for myself first since I matter the most and instantly fail if I happen to die but I would much rather spread valuable items around the group for balance.

3) The trial and error for some bosses is a bit cruel. It's one thing to hint at me 1 turn early to make sure to Guard against a powerful aoe attack that could mean instant death but to do it with no indication at all just wastes my actual, real life time. And when you die you have to watch the death rp, reload onto whatever floor you're on as a checkpoint, (thank God for that though) and rewatch any and all pre-battle rp. Irritating.

Now the pros:

1) The soundtrack is atmospheric, catchy, and hasn't gotten old after 10 hours so far. More jrpgs should be like this in the music department.

2) You're a high school transfer student in a small town and something terrible starts to happen once you get there and you and your friends have to take care of it. Almost by the books anime story line. I'd tell you more, but honestly the story is so quirky and interesting otherwise that you should just experience it yourself. I'm enjoying it immensely and am actually paying attention to what's going on. And there's all sorts of neat side stuff going on as well.

3) Not every minute of this game is about the turn based battles. You'll go multiple in game days doing other things instead of battling and I actually quite like it. Maybe there's a test and you should study. Maybe you joined a club and have practice. Maybe you have a job. Maybe you just want to socialize. Doing all this provides benefits to stats so even if you did somehow end up disliking it it's not totally pointless. It's a major aspect of the game though, if all you want is turn based battles stop reading this review now because you aren't going to like this game.

4) You have 1 in game year to beat the game. It sounds annoying on paper, but the time is very generous and helps keep the pace going; unlike other jrpgs that drastically extend playtime by hoping you get lost and make you trek around a huge map aimlessly in search of where to go next. Then you look it up online and it's some cave on another continent that is a solid 20 minute hike back to. This game will make sure you know where to go, what to do, and nudges you towards your goal.

5) It's 20 bucks at full price. What do you have to lose? Just take the risk, you'll definitely know if you're going to like the game or not before the refund time is up.
