Cons: The dog in the beginning is dead. There's crafting. Your knife can break. (it isn't very durable either) The characters all look kinda frumpy and ugly. Aiming is no longer precise. Attache cases and charms give passive buffs for some reason so if you didn't buy the more expensive version of the game... well you have less options. A treasure map for the village is also available for irl money.Pros: Looks nice. Feels faster than the original, more hectic. Slight story and dialogue changes keep things interesting. A lot of neat fluff has been added, like challenges, concept art, filters, costumes you can change mid play-through, etc. Still seems like it's gonna be fun and different enough to be a new game experience, gonna play it through. Kinda wish we could give it a meh rating though. Like it's more RE4 so yay but it feels more like the newer games instead so nay?

I got this game forever ago when it released multiplayer. Buggy as hell, DCs out the ass, bad experience.

3 years later, try it again. New free update. It's bad man. The CEO calls you every 12 seconds about implementing a new food policy to save money, and fines you a ton of money every few in-game hours if you dont change it. Except that he doesnt care if you changed it or not, you still get the fine. The mayor constantly bans the use of your visitation room, just angering your prisoners for no reason. Radios? The Chief says a local DJ is firing up your prisoners, time to get rid of those. And sometimes these ringringringring notifications don't even have the courtesy to go away, you click them and they dont stop appearing. Ringringringringringring until you quit the game entirely.

Oh and that's not all! Fires in the kitchen twice a day! Water pipes bursting every day! Your power grid explodes every other day! But you know what, I can throw around extra sprinklers and drains FINE. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN'T FIX? SUBSISTENCE ROT. Imagine for a moment you have a halfway decent prison and suddenly the small corner of your holding cell has just instantly decayed. You fix the walls and floors, there's some small chaos fine, someone tried to escape whatever. 2 in game days later it happens again in the same spot BUT EVEN BIGGER THIS TIME. You quarantine it off, rebuild your holding cell and shower area somewhere else. AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. BUT EVEN BIGGER. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN. You isolate half the map but like some sort of infectious disease and rebuild your prison but way to the left, leaving the portion on the right on it's own like a tumor but it's INEVITABLE. IT COMES ANYWAYS.

1 million dollars in debt (thanks unlimited funds option for letting us try to salvage our prison) and a 65000 dollar a day loss and you know what? This is unplayable. And it's day 13. I don't know when this game worked properly last, and it's not getting another chance. UNACCEPTABLE.

I mean I GUESS I'd recommend this game but not really at the same time. It's a Souls like with gear scaling instead of static difficulty and rng encounters, dungeons, and rewards. But aside from the crafted gear, I only ever found ONE gun. And a random in my game showed me where it was, hidden in a chest right after one of the early bosses. And I abused the ever loving heck out of this gun. Me and this gun did everything together. My class was Sniper, and a single shot high damage sniper rifle just FIT. The issue is that not only could I have missed it but it could have never even appeared in my game in the first place. And the other boss crafting guns? Not that great. Boss mods? Kinda boring. I went through the whole game with this Sniper Rifle and the starting pistol. And I only used that because I got a mod that lets me summon a dog. And the dog was amazing. Near the end of the game I even found a mod that increased his duration by 100% from an absurdly difficult horde style boss.

But I just got LUCKY. I actually managed to find items that matched how I wanted to play the game. (Instant death head shots from afar, pet to tank for me, etc) But what if I only ever found shotguns, melee weapons, or smgs? Would I have had fun? Considering my class choice, probably not. Especially since the game was just ok at best if I'm being honest. Every time I thought I was having fun the game would introduce enemies or boss encounters designed to be as unfun as possible. Fights with enemies that auto teleport to you and are able to melee hit you while you're sprinting, (it's too slow to be called that tbh) fights where the boss mechanic is spawning adds, fights where the boss flees to summon adds, fights that take place in a room littered with holes in the ground everywhere, and fights with dead teammates who instantly die that cause you to relog into the game so you can just the dang thing yourself. (looking at you, final boss)

And once I did beat the game and then looked up what kind of endgame there was, yep it's all just recreating worlds to get the items you want so you can... play the game some more? Am I supposed to be excited for that? Running through an entire recreated zone for hours to get a specific event to spawn and to get a specific mob to also spawn in said event so I can get a weapon or item? Imagine in Dark Souls 1 if you wanted the FAP ring for your build but had to replay the entire beginning of the game game over and over again until you got a world seed that had Lautrec there in his cell so you could get it from him. Yeah I suppose if you're a psychopath that might sound entertaining but every dungeon, every side item, every boss, should all just BE THERE. No rng. You should just be able to find this stuff, and you should be able to go get anything you hear about and want for yourself without worrying if some door is open and available to you in your play through or not.

5/10 at best. I made the best out of it and it took me a long time to beat irl since it wasn't so engaging that I HAD to fire it up again the next day, but turns out it was only an 11 hour game even when some afk time. If it's on sale or you can play it for free knock yourself out but I hope you get items you actually like instead of ones you don't.

First and foremost, I've never played any of the previous Persona games, and only bought this one simply because 1) It's on PC and 2) People are head over heels in love with these games. So seeing yet another positive review probably doesn't surprise anyone but most of them are just "yay game good get it" and don't tell you ANYTHING about the damn game. Let's get my gripes out of the way first, since they're not game killers.

1) A game that's ported to PC that doesn't have PC reflected controls is a terrible time. Tutorials for game controls are given in a form like: "Fast travel around town with the sub menu button!" BUT DON'T TELL YOU WHAT THAT IS! Even the name entry in the beginning is an exercise in frustration. Luckily you can just click through most stuff in the game, and often on screen prompts help you out, but seriously, just tell me that the sub menu button for fast travel is F. It's not tough to detect my input device is a keyboard, since that's the one absolute default every PC gamer would have access to. If I plugged in a controller it'd make sense since you have options for those!

2) This game is a jrpg. One that can get a little rough. But why is it that when you die it's immediate game over? I HATE THIS. I have revival items and 3 other party members, if I can revive them why can't they revive me? It just means I have to hoard any and all armor for myself first since I matter the most and instantly fail if I happen to die but I would much rather spread valuable items around the group for balance.

3) The trial and error for some bosses is a bit cruel. It's one thing to hint at me 1 turn early to make sure to Guard against a powerful aoe attack that could mean instant death but to do it with no indication at all just wastes my actual, real life time. And when you die you have to watch the death rp, reload onto whatever floor you're on as a checkpoint, (thank God for that though) and rewatch any and all pre-battle rp. Irritating.

Now the pros:

1) The soundtrack is atmospheric, catchy, and hasn't gotten old after 10 hours so far. More jrpgs should be like this in the music department.

2) You're a high school transfer student in a small town and something terrible starts to happen once you get there and you and your friends have to take care of it. Almost by the books anime story line. I'd tell you more, but honestly the story is so quirky and interesting otherwise that you should just experience it yourself. I'm enjoying it immensely and am actually paying attention to what's going on. And there's all sorts of neat side stuff going on as well.

3) Not every minute of this game is about the turn based battles. You'll go multiple in game days doing other things instead of battling and I actually quite like it. Maybe there's a test and you should study. Maybe you joined a club and have practice. Maybe you have a job. Maybe you just want to socialize. Doing all this provides benefits to stats so even if you did somehow end up disliking it it's not totally pointless. It's a major aspect of the game though, if all you want is turn based battles stop reading this review now because you aren't going to like this game.

4) You have 1 in game year to beat the game. It sounds annoying on paper, but the time is very generous and helps keep the pace going; unlike other jrpgs that drastically extend playtime by hoping you get lost and make you trek around a huge map aimlessly in search of where to go next. Then you look it up online and it's some cave on another continent that is a solid 20 minute hike back to. This game will make sure you know where to go, what to do, and nudges you towards your goal.

5) It's 20 bucks at full price. What do you have to lose? Just take the risk, you'll definitely know if you're going to like the game or not before the refund time is up.

This game is an overhead bullet hell style rogue-like game. For anyone who's never played a video game before, that means it's a randomly generated overhead shooter game, with a focus on the screen being covered in enemy attacks, and every life means restarting over. If you've played Binding of Isaac then you have almost played this game, this game is faster paced and has a magazine filled with gun puns. There are 5 floors with a boss, plus secret ones with secret bosses if you can find them. I didn't beat a whole set until I wrote this review (14 hours in) so let me spin you a yarn about this game's specific mechanics.

You get to choose from a group of 4 characters to use. The Marine, who starts with a slot of armor, has an active ability to call down an ammo drop, faster reloads, and more precise shooting. The Pilot who has a reusable lockpick, a store discount, and can hold multiple active use items. (only so you dont have to throw away the lockpick) The Hunter who starts with an extra gun, the Crossbow, and an adorable Dog who grants a chance at extra loot per room clear and can identify Mimics. (IMPORTANT: Hold E to pet the dog.) Then last, and most certainly least, the Convict, who starts with a Sawed off Shotgun, a molotov cocktail as an item, and a passive that increases her damage when she gets hurt.

The gameplay is simple to pick up and hard to master. Run around, dodge bullets, kill enemies, next room. Maybe loot some chests, hit up the shop, and kill the boss. But the enemies range from being an absolute joke to take down to absurd monstrosities who can cover a room full of death and you can find enemies like that as early as the 2nd floor. You'd think the main challenge is defeating the various bosses but honestly the room to room battles will kill you more than anything else. You see this game is stingy as heck with healing and armor, in favor of just giving you a ton of weapons and weapon related powerups instead. Most recovery is done in the shop or after a boss fight. You can clear an entire floor and never be rewarded with even half a heart. But there's a shop on each floor and in case you loot a bunch of healing when you're not injured you can save it for each floor for when you want it. (usually at the elevator after the boss)

So that's all well and good but what does the game do right? Well for one, the guns. Most of them are just plain fun to use, and unique. They often have synergy with other weapons and power ups that can also really bring out their potential. (more on this later) After 14 hours I can honestly say there aren't many guns I outright HATED or felt had no use at all. Even weaker or plain ineffective guns were still usable or at least interesting. The power ups as well were also nice. In other rogue likes they often just increase some stat but in this game they usually add a special effect or change the actions your character does making it more easily noticeable.

The game's difficulty is also nicely spread, like a well made casserole. The first floor is simple, the 2nd floor is still simple enough to be beaten on your first go, (but can also easily kill you) the 3rd floor takes the kid gloves off and starts hitting you with some real force and the 4th and 5th floors are large, complex, and rough. Don't expect to see them often. The problem, the same problem all similar games to this have, is that your drops can make or break your run. Bosses can range from absurd to trivial dependent on your guns. Story time!

I'm 6 hours in. I've made it to floor 4 a few times. I'm starting to see repeat loot meaning I've got a decent amount of experience with the game. A rare red chest appears and it's some Raiden gun that "hits every enemy on the screen regardless of where it's at) and it's the only gun I've had drop aside from some various pistols. This gun is powerful with a huge auto locking death beam. You dont even have to reload. But lo and behold, the 2nd floor boss is the Beholster... who spawns adds and launches missiles you need to shoot to destroy. Well with only a weak pistol my only option is this gun annnnnnnnd it doesn;t destroy the missiles. Even if I oriented myself directly in front of them, laser going right through them, no effect. It killed the run. He spawns the missiles so often that constantly swapping slowed my dps down and got my hit a bunch. Failure. All because this gun doesn't hit the projectiles you HAVE to hit.

12 hours in, chamber 2 again but this time with The Scrambler. A gun that shoots an egg that breaks and spawns tiny baby bullets that seek out hit your enemy. I'm fighting the Gorgun and this gun just destroyed this thing. It had no chance. And I was rewarded with the Gungeon Ant, which was key for the rest of the run. It had a combined upgrade with the Crown of Bullets gun that turned it from an ordinary semi auto gun that shot ants to a rocket launcher that had multiple shots before reloading. But also during that run I looted a shocking bullets powerup that would link 2 bullets together with arcs of lightning. Combine that with the Crown of Bullets, with a GIGANTIC clip, 3k rounds overall, that sprayed bullets everywhere, and every room I even remotely looked at funny was vaporized in seconds. My room clear gun was absurd and my boss killing gun was absurd, and I finally beat all 5 floors AND I even cleared a secret floor, the Oubliette, my first time as well. All because my guns were good.

That's the fatal flaw of this game. Unless you're god tier amazing at the game your items essentially pre-determine your success. You'll eventually get them, and I never once wanted to stop playing, but it's always frustrating when you use the only key you managed to find on the only decent chest on the whole floor just to get a fire resisting ring and now you have to pistol down the boss. And even if you do win, you're probably in real bad shape and the mobs on the next floor aren't any easier to fight.

TLDR: 8/10 if you enjoy rogue likes. But beware... it's got all the problems every rogue like does. A shop on every floor and rng npc encounters help alleviate this issue but it's still there.

If you liked the first one, you'll like this one. It's got all the meaty murdering goodness you could want. I could go on about that, but really I'm sure that me telling you about the fast paced brutal combat wouldn't suddenly be a life changing or eye opening experience. Get the game. It's good. BUT. WELL. It could be better.

Here's some cons because the game isn't perfect.

Ammo is low. SO LOW. ALL THE TIME. Yeah the chainsaw recharges so you can always brutalize a fodder demon for bullets, but it can take you only a few moments to be 100% dry, especially early in the game. There's no pistol with unlimited ammo as a backup and your standard punches do no damage. Until you've got some story progression unlocks expect to be constantly be using the chainsaw, and even then you'll still run out of ammo.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel a whole lot squishier. Granted you now unlock a flamethrower for regenerating armor mid-fight but that doesn't last more than a second it seems. You can still rip and tear for healing too but even attacks from weak demons cause you massive injury. I suppose it's not like dying matters, since you now get extra lives that trigger upon death automatically without you losing anything.

There's too much platforming and parkour for my liking. I suppose if there wasn't any you'd just go from room to room slaughtering demons but that actually sounds like a lot of fun, Instead I have to wall climb and double jump and dash around solving "puzzles" to get around. It really slows things down.

Speaking of slowing down, the collectibles are out in full force. I get it, they're all very cool and it's nice to unlock them but some of these levels have 25+ collectibles. It's a little daunting, even with the perk that helps you find them, to start a new level only to be greeted by the literal giant wall of ♥♥♥♥ I'm going to want to find. And none of them seem to be guns. I LIKED unlocking weapons early by finding secrets! Why is that gone? It's not game breaking giving me a gun a level or 2 early, come on!

It's absolutely filled to the brim with story. In the first game you were just a guy who loved murdering demons, and that's what you did. Now npcs constantly chat you up, exposition goes on for quite a bit, and you'll genuinely miss that scene from the first game where you destroy that monitor Hayden tried talking to you from because you just want to play the game. Not like it matters anyways, the story has jarred so far forward with no explanation that you feel like you're playing the 3rd game and that you missed the 2nd one somewhere.

None of that stuff is a deal breaker though. The game is still fantastic, absolutely worth the price. Definitely going to be one of this year's top grabs, don't miss out on it!

A Souls-like Star Wars action rpg with just a splash of Metroid Prime exploration and progression. Fantastic game. EA put their name on something good for once. My playtime was a bit shorter than a lot of other players who finished the game, but I'm a Souls veteran and played on only the 2nd of 4 difficulty settings. I wasn't looking to be too challenged, I just wanted to actually enjoy the game and I think I made the right choice despite that I kinda breezed through the game.

The Good: I didn't run into nearly any glitches, bugs, or even retarded AI like you might see from videos on the game by Youtubers. The pacing was good, the difficulty settings will let anyone actually beat the game, the protagonist and his friends are likable, and the game doesn't drag on TOO long. The environments are swell, the map tells you everything you'll need to know, and even points out a lot of secrets so you don't miss a whole lot of goodies, most of which are neat customization options. It just feels all around good.

The Bad: Upgrades are locked behind story progression, and a lot of the early ones are pretty dull. The later abilities also cost multiple points to unlock, and are still often pretty underwhelming. And why does lightsaber throw cost 3 points and requires the end of the unlock tree before you can get it? And then it's 2 more points to give it a decent range. A lot of the boss fights are also designed not to really be won, you get halfway through their health and then suddenly a cutscene happens and ends it instead happens. And while the combat is pretty nice, enemies don't seem to care if you attack them. An attack with a lightsaber often won't interrupt their blows, so you end up just playing defensively most of the time out of necessity while lowering their "block" bar in order to hit them.

My girlfriend wants to come over tonight and I told her I have work in the morning just so I can play this game all night instead. I'm not saying it's better than sex, but it's a lot more magical of an experience for sure.
