Review for Soul Caliber 6.

The good,
After having been a soul caliber fan for a long time, I have played soul caliber 2,3,4,5 and the PSP soul caliber, I will say that soul caliber 6 is the best soul caliber game in the series in terms of gameplay, graphics, animations, gameplay mechanic’s, content, and music. Soul caliber 6 may not have as many characters as other soul caliber games like soul caliber 4, however all the characters are very well balanced. I did I local multiplayer test where I have several people test out each character against each other and while soul caliber was never a perfectly balanced fighting game, however according to my test it is possible to beat any of the stronger tiered characters with some of the weaker tiered character’s.

Soul caliber 6 is a great game for showing off your audio system and your sound card, it is a great game to test your graphics card and performance of your PC running a gorgeous game with lots of action in soul calibers long story mode. Soul caliber 6 has an excellent story mode campaign and bonus game modes that soul caliber 5 lacked while having the refined gameplay mechanics and balance that soul caliber 4 lacked all while sounding better, preforming better, great animations and graphicly looking better than all the other games.

Soul caliber 6 is an excellent game to play locally showing off a beautiful game that is pick up and play that people who normally don’t like fighting games would enjoy with characters from other video game series and media to hop into soul caliber. Online multiplayer for soul caliber 6 is great, fighting games normally don’t have as many people playing them online as first-person shooters do but I play soul caliber 6 online. Soul caliber 6 is the first soul caliber game on PC to have a PC port you would think the PC port isn’t very good but the options for the game settings are excellent and it is a great game to benchmark PCs with in sound, performance, and graphics. The game even has a few mods as it is in the unreal engine but it has no official mod support or steam workshop support.

The bad
The main issue I had with this game was the day one DLC and I feel that any content made by developers before the games launch should be released with the purchase of the game. If you do not want to support day 1 DLC I understand and I did not buy the game at full price to partially boycott soul caliber 6 but as I am a long time fan of soul caliber the day one DLC was my personal favorite character tira who was in soul caliber 3,4,5 and the PSP game broken destiny and I just had to buy that DLC as tira is really fun to play and her story mode, weapon style, sexy voice actor ( I am very biased) and costume was well worth 7 dollars to me and was well worth it on sale.

Soul caliber 6 is not cheap the game costs a lot, all of the soul caliber 6 DLC is not out yet, characters like 2B from Nier Automata, and Tira are already out as DLC but character’s like Amy, Rock, Cassandra, Aeon / Lizardman, Setsuna, Algol, Hwang, are speculated to be DLC characters from my interpretation of the DLC file name titles. I think that the DLC characters are well worth it for an analogy, all character’s feel like they are well made from the 5th game not poorly made like the 4th game.

Soul caliber is not so much a competitive fighting game it is like smash bros in how pick up and play it is and if you have never played a fighting game before I would highly recommend soul caliber 6 to be your first fighting game. But if you want a very challenging fighting game street fighter or mortal combat might be better games for a consumer looking for a competitive fighting game.

Recommendation
So, do I recommend you buy soul caliber 6? I would recommend it if you want a great sounding, preforming, graphicly looking game with lots of content and balanced character’s, I would also recommend the DLC characters but I don’t think its work your money to get the seasons pass or cosmetic DLC. If you want to boycott day one DLC completely I can understand not buying this game hopefully soul caliber 7 will not have day one DLC but I suggest you buy soul caliber 6 on a decent sale as soul caliber is rarely on sale. The game will give you hundreds of hours in local multiplayer, online multiplayer and its story mode. If you only want to play difficult, competitive fighting games while soul caliber 6 online is very challenging other games are more competitive and I would suggest you get soul caliber if you don’t like fighting games very much or you want to play fighting games with your friends.

Overall, I would recommend soul caliber 6, as a fan of the series I had low expectations for a soul caliber game and soul caliber 6 is the best in the series. The DLC is quite nice too.
