I just finished the game. I had to take a minute to let it all sink in. I knew this was a game I wanted to write a review for and give this Steam Review thing for a spin.

This game isn't for everyone. I couldn't imagine my younger brothers finding any enjoyment in it with their twitchy two second interval attention span, but for anyone else, this game is fantastic. It's slow, but a relatively short game, clocked in at about 4 hours played when I finished the game and I'm pretty sure I looked at every nook and cranny. The game is a story exploration game. You get home late after a year traveling abroad in Europe and expect your family to be there to greet you, but you come to find no one is there and you spend the entirety of the game looking for your sister.

The game has so many wonderful details and the ongoing main story is so well thought-out. There are two other smaller storylines that go on in the story but mostly you're unraveling your sister's story. Through this story though we are painted a very human picture of the family as a whole; how the parents were, how you were and how your sister was. Its just stellar writing and some of the most human writing I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a video game.

The game is all about the story and is extremely light on mechanics. There really isn't much going for it here, but that wasn't the point of why they made the game the way they did. The picking up of objects, twirling them around and putting cassettes into tape players all works just fine, but again it's nothing to be excited about. These are all just pushing the narrative forward and I'm totally okay with this.

I love the way the game looks. It's not a Crysis or Battlefield game as far as visuals go, but it's perfect for what they were trying to do. The house feels like a real place. It's also creepy as hell when you're walking through the damn thing. Every part of the house is so well done. The floor plans, everything. It really does feel like the "Psycho House" in the middle of a forest in 1995. They really nailed the feeling of the mid-90's.

The music in the game is also incredible. The original score is ominous and powerful. Every time you hear the journal entries a different song plays from the creepy score that plays normally as you walkthrough the house. The cassettes that you pop into the tape players are also awesome songs, they are very reminiscent of the time period and are from local bands from where the game was made (a basement in Oregon I believe). The voice acting is also stellar in the game. The entries from the journal are so well done, they are filled with emotion and really are conveyed on to the player. It's all very believable.

Overall, if you have the attention span for it. Pick up this game, its fantastic. It's a breathe of fresh air in a world filled with Call of Duty's and Battlefields(They have their place). I'd give this game a score of 9/10.
