Dreamfall: Chapters is the third instalment of The Longest Journey Franchise. First there was a point and click adventure called The Longest Journey staring a female protagonist called April Ryan. I cannot comment heavily on that game because it is the one I have not completed. From what I have heard it is considered one of the best adventure/point and click games of it's generation/all time with an outstanding story which I believe is the greatest asset about all three of these games. In 2006 Dreamfall: The Longest Journey was released and is one my personal favourite story driven games ever. I think Zoe Castillo the main female protagonist of both Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: Chapters is a great character and is personally my favourite female protagonist of all time. When I played and completed the game I felt very emotional about the story and the world and had so many questions due to the cliff hanger ending.

I never had any idea that there would be follow up to it and was very excited when Dreamfall: Chapters was announced. Dreamfall: Chapters took an episodic approach which I'm personally not a great fan of, however that doesn't means anything now as the whole game is fully released. I was very excited during Book One trying to get answers to the questions left at the end of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. However by mid Book Two I really lost interest and was very disappointed and felt like it wasn't a good successor to the prequel. I left the game for a good six months, by which time all the Books had been released. I came back to it and started to become invested again in Book Three to Book Four. I personally felt that the ending was very good and satisfied my answers to the cliff hanger at the end of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey that was my primary reason for being so invested in Dreamfall: Chapters.

As a game I personally don't think Dreamfall: Chapters gameplay is great. This game is a puzzle/adventure game but I personally thought it was a mediocre experience at best in this area. All combat has been removed from Dreamfall: Chapters, not that this is a really bad thing as it was a very basic system in Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

Subjectively this series story I feel is as good as The Last Of Us, I'm sure a lot of people may disagree but that's a personal belief. The reason I say this is because not many games have made me feel as emotional at the end of the game like these two series have.

I recommend this game and also this is not just a recommendation for Dreamfall: Chapters I recommend playing Dreamfall: The Longest Journey as well before this and maybe the first game in the series The Longest Journey before that to give you a better understanding of the world and the characters than I believe the recap available does.
