A "must play" due to several reasons:

  • Great storytelling in less than 2 hours of gameplay, which you can finish on one sit
  • Cool gameplay mechanic: You play when your webcam is on, and your eyes become your controller. Not being poetic here, the game detects your eye blinks and takes them as input. This mechanic works perfectly with the story and the storytelling. You watch a person's life from his eyes, and every time you blink, you jump forward in time to see a new memory.
  • Very emotional story where you can find something about yourself. It made me force myself to not blink, to stay in a certain memory much longer!

Very promising concept and great application. The devs made a great tycoon game, but missed a change to make a memorable masterpiece!

Pros:
+ Great progression curve. Start with a small and cozy tavern, make it a big ass tavern in a few hours. The mechanics are unlocked in a great pace that you don't get bored while making progress
+ Several complimentary mechanics: employees, ingredients, adventures, events, menu, quests, tech tree... All great and works very well
+ Tech tree and quests what makes you keep playing, if you like to unlock new features
+ Hotel feature is great addition, unlocked a bit late though, but still enjoyed it

Not cons, but what game needs:
- Events can be much more exciting and interesting. There is no difference between a regular day and an event day, except the event menu and customer types (just a color). What about event specific decorations? Activities or encounters? Event specific quests, etc... There are so much possible interaction they could add here
- There is a great opportunity to add a narrative/story telling here. The developers can still add some special customers that the player will recognize, or, there can be some "actions" that players will remember "what happened that day". Even when I saw that there was a thief that stole one of my barrels, I got excited because it was a story. Game needs more of that, especially about the customers. What about bar fights? What about a dark hooded stranger that no one sits near him?

Overall, whole current content can be consumed in 10h, which is a great value for the time and money. I enjoyed every hour of it, and wanted more. Also saw that the developer shared a roadmap, but unfortunately I didn't find it exciting to try again in the future. Still, recommend it

It's so hard to appraise Inscryption. Only thing people will say "just play it" without giving you any context. As you can guess, there is a reason for that. Don't watch let's plays, don't read more reviews, just play it! Definitely one of the top games released in 2021!

I came for deckbuilding roguelike. The core idea is so simple and still unique, even there are thousands of roguelike deckbuilding games out there. The game introduced new mechanics in almost every run, which makes you keep playing.

I usually stop playing roguelike games after beating them once or twice. I am so glad that I didn't do the same for Inscryption.

If you are not sure about Horror aspect of the game, I can say there is nothing to worry about. The horror is just a theme, Inscryption doesn't focus on thrilling you with any mechanic like scare-jumps or visual effects. Definitely not a horror game

If you are either of the below, just give it a shot:
  • Roguelike deckbuilding fan
  • Likes Pony Island or The Hex
  • Likes unique storytelling
  • Want to join into Fight Club and cannot talk about it

One man spent 3.5 years to create this game, and it is NOT one of those tiny game with sh*tty graphics. RoN is way more better than one man's effort:

  • Mechanics are so solid. Easy to learn, (very) hard to be master. It feels great to accelerate with using the hooks, or succeed a level that looks impossible.
  • Replay system is so fun, when you spend 1 minute for a level, and watch the replay of that guy at #1 who achieved in 10 secs, you'll want to try it again
  • I have just completed 20/80 of the levels when I'm writing this comment, so games still have lots of promissing and gameplay time
  • Visual juice and art is also great, there are lots of small details. Look closely to the hooks when your speed is up.

If you're a speedrunner or hardcore player, you lost so many great times while reading these comments. If you're a casual gamer like me who likes a bit difficulty, you have to see what you can do with a pair of hook.

The idea of "changing the codes of the game" is pretty cool. It can be perfect for a programming course or lua 101. But making a game with this idea would be really tough. As a programmer, I feel like working while playing Hack 'n' Slash. Actually, you're debugging a game! It is fun for a short time, well, at least you learn what we're dealing with while making games.

Also puzzles are not fair, e.g. write two strings to open to door and there is no clue about it.

It's like satisfactory small colorful balls addiction. Don't play it if you have work/school tomorrow!

Like any other Yunus Ayyıldız's games, level design is the key reason of why you must play this game. Even though puzzle mechanic is very simple, you can struggle in a single level for minutes.
