It's perfect

I have my reservations about this game after spending some time away from it, but there are individual scenes in here that are so potent I haven't stopped thinking about them...stuff like this doesn't come around often.

Scratches an excellent itch

Extraordinarily clunky and probably unplayable to some, but literary in the best sense and a treat for anyone like me who used to compete in linguistics olympiads. Don't think I've ever seen a game so accurately capture the way histories are distorted, written, and rewritten over time.

Exemplary co-op gameplay.

Chaotic relaxation may seem like an oxymoron, but it is exactly what Synergy provides for me. It's very, very fun to bumble your way through the familiar levels of the various Half-Life games with ten or so people at your side. Often comical, never boring.

Politically prescient, visually impressive, and overall just a shining exemplar of the unique way that games can tell stories.

Perhaps I'm just a wimp, but this game gives me sweaty palms every time I boot it up. It's dripping in suspense, and despite its age and dated graphics, it is still very enjoyable and effective. Every level is basically a masterclass in level design.

Exhilarating.
