Optimisation is absolutely terrible. I'm getting 7fps. S E V E N. it is as slow as a powerpoint slide show it's unplayable. I've spend countless hours trying to fix it. restarting the pc everytime fixes it for a few minutes only for it to come back. In certain areas (the really big wide open areas) it is especially apparent, but it can come randomly.

The base game ran smoothly at 60fps. This is unacceptable. I don't care if it is microsoft who ♥♥♥♥ us up with weird windows updates, fromsoft you have to do your job

Having finished the game now, I honestly cannot get what the overhyped craze behind this game is, perhaps it's the bar for VR games has been set so low that a somewhat actual functioning game suddenly gets praised to the heavens?

Never played other half-life games so I'm not covered in nostalgia goggles, with that being said the story is just poorly written, especially the main characters with their forgettable uninvolved dialogues and boring characters. It might link the events of half-life games but dang was it simply unenjoyable.

The upside is that the environment is well built and immersive, i found myself pretty scared at first and the first few gunfights were very intense. some enemies were particularly memorable like Jeff, which did manage to cause some horror.

However the VR interaction is quite limited, as I couldn't evoke any response to enemies other than shooting them. I would whack them with hammers and heavy objects to no effect, only to have myself wide open for attack.

The map heights were quite often buggy, even with proper headset calibration I often find myself floating half a meter above ground in-game.

I would say the game is OK, but if this is considered the pinnacle of VR game design these days, then the game industry seriously need to up their game.

This game has a good concept, but in reality is horrible.
Everything was very cool at first, the settings, the atmosphere, the sounds, the combat... but then you will quickly find out that none of that mattered, as this game is pretty much how you'd expect to play starcraft: just keep churning out units non-stop like a factory, quickly capture some bases, grab more resources, churn out more units and overwhelm your enemies.
it quickly becomes very boring and a huge chore, you'd just hope each game would finish quickly.

Very fun but...

My biggest complaint is HORRIBLE PATHFINDING, heros and units often get stuck or run about trying to reach places when they could have just took a turn 2 steps back. When giving commands to heros to disengage, often they just stand still after running a few steps. It's worst when your hero wields a scepter, as he will basically ignore your command and keep channeling.

Alot is changed from the base spellforce 3 game. mostly good changes.
But the RTS element is pretty ridiculous. Unless your heros are very strong and has decent crowd control abilities, the enemy AI can steamroll you pretty quickly. this is especially apparent on the first RTS mission, you get absolutely wrecked as the enemy has lots of bases and keep churning out units at you nonstop.
However by late game your heros (when optimised properly) can just carry and Blitz the entire enemy army lol (in fact I'm always so busy micro-ing my heros I have no time to manage my bases)
The battles happen too quickly unless you are very good at micro management.

TLDR: Game is good, story is epic, immersive and wonderful. but requires constant server connection which often breaks and makes the game completely unplayable, along with some game crashing bugs. immersion is often ruined by such silly technical issues
-
Edit: after playing for an additional 58 hours (and the last 8 or so hours basically constantly battling with the poor servers that keep kicking me out mid-fight during the final boss... I would have very much recommended this epic piece of art, it was very enjoyable, if not for the ****************************************** servers! The art, music, environment, story, (and to some degree the silly minigames) are very much enjoyable. What a journey, the feels! If only the characters had facial expression!

Long version: bad servers and interesting gameplay-

The Bad Servers
The game requires perpetual server connection in some foolish attempt to crackdown on illegal pirated games. In doing so they have done more harm to honest players who just want to enjoy the game in peace.
The servers are quite constantly unconnectable, the only times I can finally have some peace is past midnight like 1 in the morning. So the only way I can play the game is to mess up my real life? Ridiculous!. Also some areas of the game keep causing crashes, such as the lotus seed world, whenever i look at the general direction of the fishing net, whoops.
-
The Game itself
However in terms of the game experience, it is rather pleasant. It's got all the modern Chinese Xianxia (mythical martial heros) tropes of the genre, it's got smooth and cool combat, fantastic maps and environment and music, pleasant lore and (cliche) story telling, interesting creatures, home building and crafting system, good exploration vibes, (and along with the stereotypical characters with beautiful plastic surgery emotionless faces... if you're into that sort of thing).
-
So if you wish to fulfil your fantasies to slay demons with flashy kungfu swordplay, with your dreamy waifu followers, have a huge rodent pet sidekick, explore fantastical land of China and the spirit realm, while eating a bunch of delicious chinese food you crafted in your meticulously designed home inside a lotus seed, while forcing slave labour on native spirits and fey whom you have brutally massacred and forced into servitude.... This game is for you! except do expect to be frustrated on the servers.

This used to be a wonderful game.... until the developers showed how unethical they are by removing their game from GeForce Now. Imagine buying a book from amazon, then you try to read it from your toilet, and your book is forcefully taken away because "the author should control where the book exists", doesn't matter that you already bought the book, because screw the customers, that's why.

Game supposedly came out more than a decade ago. The amount of crashes just makes it unplayable, struggled so much, launching and crashing, launching and play a bit and crash and start again, and now after beating the titan after uncountable times of trying and crashing, I'm just stuck on rhodes because I simply cannot go anyfurther without crashing within 1 minute leaving the village. Searched everywhere and there is nothing to fix this.
