I can't recommend this game. I really just found it tedious - long stretches of doing the same thing over and over again, endless bags full of junk that I had to keep popping back to town to vendor, annoying mechanics and silly design choices.

It does look good. The various monster animations are solid.

I played Grim Dawn before Titan Quest, and it is easy to see where Grim Dawn borrowed, well, pretty much everything from Titan Quest. But I had quite a few quibbles with Grim Dawn that carry directly over from this, and while Grim Dawn did fix or ameliorate some of the worst issues, in this game they are just in-your-face annoying.

The inventory management just sucks, and for very little good reason. Yes, it's a Diablo-style system, but when you're dropping so much roughly similar junk gear, and having a fairly flexible class system meaning that it should be promoting options in play style, the inventory/bank system is just a constant bane. There is just not enough space to store up possible future/alternate build gear. Constantly working out what to vendor to free up space to store a new bit of blue gear that I don't think I want to equip immediately just rubs me completely the wrong way. Sure, make the bag space limited to make you prioritize things in the field, but why limit bank space so egregiously? Poor poor choices.

And yes, endless streams of very similar useless gear don't thrill me. Sure, this type of game is about how you weed out the dross and find the gems for your particular build focus, but seriously, a couple of minutes of play and my bags are full, pop to the city (which is easy, thankfully and necessarily) and sell sell sell sell sell. Yawn. Less loot drops, please, with less junk. A lot less.

And the initial play through is just not challenging. And as far as I can tell you can't go to a harder difficulty until you've played through the whole thing. This is just dull punishment for the sake of padding out the gqme as far as I'm concerned. At least Grim Dawn gave the option of choosing a slightly harder initial run through - here, nope, you just gotta slog through hours and hours of trivial fights because we can't have you being challenged from the get go! And the lack of initial challenge makes the gear situation worse because it's so hard to care about gear that largely doesn't seem to matter. At least initially.

These games are all about picking through the loot carefully and working to gear up and improve your character to meet the challenges - as far as I'm concerned this game has got the balance completely wrong on all counts.

The story is pretty average. It's fine, but not enough to enliven the seemingly endless wandering through the same fields and dungeons killing the same monsters and talking to basically the same NPCs.

The game does mostly run fine. There are some glitchy bits - hit detection on using the teleporters is just dodgy and annoying, and the game does stutter and slow down after playing for a while, but I have no major complaints on that front. The usual top-down isometric navigation issues (perhaps navigation is a bit clunkier and more annoying than I have found in other similar games). Meh - details that wouldn't be particularly notable if there were a gripping story or gameplay.

Best Diabloid I have ever played. Frankly speaking, I am a bit (perhaps not a bit) biased towards this game, but I guess, the experience of playing this game can be quite good for a vast majority of players who like this genre, even nowadays.
